I have no doubts that the BE will sue WV and sue vigorously. No matter what it costs. It's who they are. It's very simple as it is in many contact/legal situations. You just go ahead and do it, because it would cost them an arm and a leg to sue you and they never will.
WVU and Providence are playing a game of chicken. They are both going to lose.
If they show up and start playing in the Big 12 next year what can the Big East do? Throw them in football jail?
Seriously, what can they do? All the BE can do is sue them which results in WV losing a lawsuit and having to pay the Big East. Which I am sure they are more than willing to do now.
The only scenario I see that they can leave and we can't is if they are paying an outrageous exit fee that we refuse to pay.
Seems like it would need to move pretty quickly if SU had any chance of being in the ACC for the 2012 football season. ACC has more logistics to work out. Big 12 is easier since they're just swapping names. aTm for TCU, Mizzou for WVU.
But we could sit back, watch how it plays out, and then potentially be in the ACC for the 2013 football season instead of waiting until 2014.
the acc scheduling meeting is in january and su and pitt will be in attendance. can they make up a plan a and plan b?
If the Big East sues, you respond by saying you'll pay your share of what the TV revenue would be for the next two years. You'll make that back up in no time, hence why you're leaving.
But wouldn't every Big East team need to come up with one more game? Shouldn't WVU be expected to pay for those?
I wonder if the big east will be able to add just 1 team in 2012 and that might be why wv can leave?
Coupled with a 10+ year WVU scheduling boycott.I have no doubts that the BE will sue WV and sue vigorously. No matter what it costs. It's who they are.

I'm not sure if SU & Pitt would go along with that... probably not. Cincinnati & Louisville probably wouldn't either as they both still have eyes on Big XII membership. It would be interesting if they did and got the ACC members to go along with it as well. WVU would have no east coast BCS OOC opponents to play.
From a business partnership viewpoint, WVU is not scoring a lot of points.
I would expect Syracuse and Pitt to get $0 from WfVU's exit fee. Our friends in Providence would argue that the ACC-bound started this mess.Do we get the damages from WVU leaving early and can we use them to then leave early ourselves?

BYU seems like the only one...that would actually be a good compromise. WVU could pay BYU any penalties for cancelling games. It better be done by XMas. You remember how tough it was to get a game after ECU bolted on us.
