WVU let's discuss

WVU is a good team. They also aren't some kind of bad matchup where we are stuck vs a top 5 team with no Weaknesses.

Yesterday they forced Morehead into 18 turnovers. Morehead averages 15.9 turnovers on the season.

Morehead shot 52 pct from 3 their season average is 35 pct.

Morehead shot 52 pct overall as well vs 46 pct on the year.

Morehead out rebounded WVU by 4.

WVU has been bitten in the tourney over the years being too aggressive on D. They at times get into no man's land where they are unsure and leave a ton of openings. We just played a team that tried to grab hold and glue themselves to us and we battled through. We have the most unique starting C in the tourney who when he brings the ball up it breaks down what the defense wants to do because it leaves a big guarding a guard or wing.

This is a game where you should see Griffin and Quincy get real opportunities vs being stonewalled vs San Diego St. Joe, Bobby and Jesse just got a monster confidence boost. We are as ready as we will ever be to get back to the sweet 16. I'm not saying it happens or it will be easy but I like our chances.

Honestly all I see in this post is

Morehead

Morehead

Morehead

This WV team IMO is the best team we have faced all year. I’ve seen them play several times this year and I don’t see a weakness of theirs that we can necessarily expose. We won’t win this game with our D, it’ll come down to our offensive execution and efficiency. And, whether we match their intensity, grit and will.

Huggins is quite familiar with the Syracuse zone, and he’ll have his players well prepared. Additionally, WV sees zone in their conference...Baylor plays a very solid one. The Mountaineers lost some tough games in arguably the top conference this year...where a bounce here or there would’ve rendered a different outcome.

If we bring our A game, I think it’ll be tight and a chance to get the W. Anything else, we will lose...and likely by double digits.

I watched plenty of the B12 as well. It's a good conference but to say best.. no. This WVU team is good yes. They were lucky to get a 3 seed. They may be better than UVA but not a worse matchup. They don't guard off the ball like UVA does. They also are not playing as well as they were earlier on. They pulled away from Morehead state but they also gave up 50 pct shooting and didn't turn them over much more than M Sts average this year as they were not good in that department already. This is somewhat similar to our game vs MSU a couple years back except we are much better on offense and worse on D.

WVU relies on getting to the line a lot as well. Zone negates a lot of that. Also from how things are being called there is not a ton of FTs in the tourney so far which is great to see but not good for a team that relies on it.

Roy Williams: "I'll buy you a Coca Cola". Does he know anything about Huggins?
Yeah, only if it's half filled with Jack. LOL

I stated “arguably” the top conference, so I didn’t say “the best.” On that point, what conference currently has the best tournament record?

I don’t know how “lucky” they were getting a 3 seed. I guess, one can argue the same about us and our seed and not being in the ‘play in games.’ Not to mention getting a relatively favorable draw.

I think it’s a difficult matchup, as again I don’t think that there’s anything we do that can easily expose their weaknesses. I think we can win, but we definitely will need to bring our A game as I said. Just my opinion from the half dozen or so games I’ve watched of theirs.

They came into the tourney with 9 losses. I think FSU deserved a 3 over them. They are no doubt a good team. The Big 12 style of play is tough to gauge when it comes to the tourney. A big part of their better record in the tourney is seeds too.

Perhaps a little ACC bias on your part?

FSU was pathetic in their last regular season game against ND. They waltzed straight to the semifinals of the ACCT because of COVID and best a very mediocre UNC team. In the finals against GT, they didn’t look that good either, and they certainly didn’t look good today with narrowly escaping UNC Greensboro. The 10 point final margin doesn’t really paint an accurate picture. But, they survived and advanced, which is all that matters.

In any event, arguing between a 3 and a 4 seed depends upon one’s opinion...hard to objectively argue otherwise.

Let's see how tomorrow goes. Feel free to root for WVU looking like a top team.

A ton of negativity in this thread. W. Va is obviously going to press the whole game. I think they will get scorched doing that. Kadary and Marek will bring the ball. Whoever McBride covers, the other one will beat their man and it will lead to open shots all over the court. It will help Buddy, Joe, Griff, Bobby and even Quincy. Game, set and match. Its a fantastic match-up for us. Looking forward to kicking Rutgers ass. Let's get out of this negative mind set. This team lost 9 times and will soon lose #10. LGO.

Joe's good play came after a spell on the bench.

I think 8 minutes per half of the no Kadary nonsense will bite us hard TBH.

We'll see if JB wants to go deep and use Kadary, Jesse, and Bras earlier.
agree 100%
JB has gotta let kadary loose at there. The kid is so versatile, he can do everything and is definatly a problem for the opposition in the zone and so is edwards!
I give JB credit for finally opening up the the rotation off the bench some but he can go further.
IDK what the numbers were when edwards and richmond were on the court yesterday but i guarantee it was well in our favor. that was the best by far we played D all year
