Left fielder who bats righty but at a very low %. To me it doesn't make sense not letting one of the kids in the system the big opportunityRidiculousIMO. If this player was something off the charts defensively he might have an edge but otherwise its a waste of time and far system $ in the long run.

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees have signed Matt Diaz to a minor league contract.
He's been given an invitation to spring training and will stand a good chance at earning an Opening Day roster spot as a platoon mate with Ichiro Suzuki in right field. If he does make the team, he'll earn $1.2 million plus a possible $800,000 more in incentives. Diaz was limited to 51 games in 2012 and is coming off thumb surgery, but he's a career .324/.364/.498 hitter against left-handed pitching.
