I think it's broken into two groups, 10 guys that will form the 2 deep, and then 8 guys that are development. All jokes aside, they have obviously focused on strength and conditioning

Two Deep I think Collins and Spoon are locked in. Battle is for guard and one tackle.

There's no way they just let Washington get fat. I'm leaning that is a legit playing weight, which is insane. With the changes in weight, both up and down, I think they upped the "science" and pegged optimal targets for every player based on frame, cardio, and strength. It seems too systematic to be anything else. Another example of DART.

Development guys. Not saying they can't move up, some will probably have to because of injuries. Brown mentioned Hawn specifically as getting himself ready.

The change in measurables has been remarkable.

If nothing else, this team won't be physically overmatched against anybody they play. The days of getting manhandled are over. It doesn't guarantee anything, look at FSU last year as the case study in that, but at least you aren't starting out with a distinct disadvantage.

I'm wondering if these numbers are a little altered...what are the chances of everyone on the line being in 5lb increments? It doesn't seem right

Very possible but at the same time the program has established very consistent weight goals and targets. The players are on the scale frequently.

I'm too lazy to look it up. Is there a list of their previous weights.

The goal line play action TD pass to tackle-eligible Byron Washington is going to be a first ballot Big Guy Hall of Fame

Does it?

I don’t think they would let the player just get fat. Add Briown citing him. He’s not doing that if Washington isn’t DART
People carry weight differently. Bryant McKinnie is one of the best tackles ever and was playing at 375-390 in the NFL, where speed and quickness is more important. Byron being 10 lbs heavier and 1" shorter than McKinnie, after just 7 months of a college conditioning program doesn't really make me concerned, if he carries the weight well.

I am very certain that the Full time nutritionist along with Syracuse University Director of Football Performance Chad Smith and his staff have factored in diet, flexibility, BMI etc. to the players playing weights and their performance at those weights. I trust they know exactly what they are doing. Go Orange !!!!!

I know it's orange colored glasses to think that but imagining Washington as a stalwart in the OL like McKinnie was for the U and becoming a top 5 draft pick are what I hope for with his career

400lbs has to be too heavy

Also, 400 lbs on a 6'7" frame is going to look a LOT different on on a 6'3" guy. And some guys just have a massive frame to build on, if he was fat he'd be on the developmental list. He might just be that enormous guy that just devours defensive linemen. Curious as to his quickness more than anything. Is he a space eater, or is he athletic enough to pull or just lock down an end?

Another excellent unit update. With such similar frames, I'm curious which players you see in positional battles (center seems set with Collins)? I'm thinking:

Tackle - Spoon on one side, battle for the other spot between Betrand, Mack and Cruz?
Guard - Rice, Pringle ... battle Miller (backup to collins?), Washington and Ferguson for two (2) spots?

Could be the biggest OL we've ever fielded.

I bet y'all Matt Hawn starts ...if I were a betting man ...and I'd probably make a lot of money. He has been mentioned not just a couple times by Fran, but he was also singled out by name by the recruiting staff when they did their media interview a few months ago during signing day. They really believe they have a good one here.

Would be pretty wild for a true freshman OL to start but stranger things have happened.

One note, the first 7 guys on the two deep are transfers. Brown is positioning the roster to be a net exporter instead of an importer in 2 years.

Might have a couple of guys leave for bags or leave because they don’t have a path to the field. And it will be a good thing.
