Your 2025 Offensive Line

I agree. That's why I said what I said. My response was to your last sentence that came across as a blanket statement. There are freshman olineman that start all over the country. They usually end up high draft picks. Matthew Bergeron was one for us. You don't redshirt those.
That link of top 50 OL starting just shows how rare it is. I'm pretty sure none of those that started were centers. And Stewart isn't even a top 50 OL.

Not bashing the kid at all. But he will be in a better position to succeed if he redshirts this season. And a redshirt doesn't mean he isn't playing. Get him some game time in blowouts.

If you think about it, the last 20 years or so. Who was are only starting true frosh o-lineman that was successful? Bergeron? And he didn’t start until a few games into his true frosh season. So it’s very rare for Cuse and Bergeron was a camp find

Pay the man.

You're old, we get it. Doesn't make you right.

Unless they get injured or it's a 35 point game, the starting C should be seeing every snap. I'm rooting for the kid but you're acting like he's the second coming of Jim Ringo.
I completely agree. would never throw a new center just for a few snaps. if we are in a beatdown then yes just play the young guys.

Didnt he comein at 20 being a canadian guy. i swear i saw that.

And our oline sucked that first year so if he could block anyonehe played

Yeah, but if the argument against playing freshman was the complexity of the game, I think that's what I saw above, and not physical maturity, that extra year in Canada doesn't matter too much. He still had to get used to the speed and complexity of the college game.

I'm not saying most guys shouldn't redshirt, just that not everyone can be thrown in the same bucket. There are the occasional exceptions that are the elite talents that play right away. The really good teams land those guys and get to have them anchor their olines for 3 years before they leave early for the league. With how Fran recruits, we may see some of those now and then.

Also, 400 lbs on a 6'7" frame is going to look a LOT different on on a 6'3" guy. And some guys just have a massive frame to build on, if he was fat he'd be on the developmental list. He might just be that enormous guy that just devours defensive linemen. Curious as to his quickness more than anything. Is he a space eater, or is he athletic enough to pull or just lock down an end?
Plus muscle weighs more than fat.

Conway and Hickey [don't believe he redshirted, could be wrong since that was about 12 years ago].

I do wonder if Byron Washington stays on the OL or if he can make any noise as a DT. I don't expect him to be 400 all season but my god that is a gigantic human being

Those positions are so different -- I don't think it is as easy of a transition from one side of the ball to the other as it might seem on paper. Sure, he's huge -- but does he have the lateral mobility to play on defense?

Yeah I am not suggesting that he has to or must go to DT or anything but we see it all the time with players across the country play one and then move to the other. Of course they're different positions with different skill sets, but we shall see what develops

Personally I would prefer him to be a monster OT for years to come for us, but whatever helps us win

I have said before, center is the hardest place to start as frosh. You are the point person on the line and need to know all plays and exactly what each guy is doing. Then u have to figure the front and way yiur taught to block it while the dline is sliding back and forth. The frosh might be physical enough and big enough but the mentsl aspect is really difficult to overcome. Its not impossible, just improbable.
Blocking is one thing but good shotgun snapping is vital .. not all are best at it

One note, the first 7 guys on the two deep are transfers. Brown is positioning the roster to be a net exporter instead of an importer in 2 years.

Might have a couple of guys leave for bags or leave because they don’t have a path to the field. And it will be a good thing.
Another note is that there is good class balance, 3 Srs, 2 Jrs, 3 So, 3 RSFr, 6 Fr. That is what you like to see in a development program.

If SU ever gets to a place where you are losing multiple Jrs to the NFL or the SEC/Big, that’s a first world problem.

I wouldnt complain. Just when i see championship teams, 99 percent of time u dont see true frosh on line. maybe on defense but ur right. i gotta google this now. let u know what i find.

Generally since 22- 4 true frosh have played and started every game. texas am had 2 21 and NC had rice so for good teams averageis 4 or so a year. Now we need a five star Oline kid tontest it lol

I'm going to have to bring some maple syrup to the games this year because there are going to be a lot of pancakes served at the Dome.

That was a really cool article.

Sounds like the "main" OL rotation is comprised of 8 guys. Need 2-4 more to emerge, for depth.
He left out Washington and Miller. I wouldn’t infer where guys are based on that article.
