Absolutely nothing. I'm just as excited as anyone to get this season started. Started planning food menu 2 weeks ago. Put in for a 1/2 day at work to make sure I'm loaded up and on-site by 4pm. And have been talking these guys up to my kids and lady friend since the end of July. So what do I mean? I mean we throttled RI back in '02. It's might still be our biggest win margin since, I'm too lazy to look it up but if memory serves correct then we beat them by about 50 pts. We then finished the season 4-8 and the calls for P to get fired started. I hope more than anyone we don't pull a Marrone and keep these guys in the game until after the half, but even if we do score 7 TDs, it doesn't mean anything except the boys had a good game against far inferior competition. We learn about ourselves in week 2, not week 1.

All that being said, why isn't kickoff here yet?!?!?!

I think the team had already suffered losses to BYU and North Carolina. The season was already not looking promising. That 2002 season further illustrated how Freeney's greatness. The defense basically went from great to terrible in his absence.

On site by 4:00pm? You're better than this Pyle!
One downside to leaving corporate and joining academia...Vacation blackout 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the start of the semester. I can't get out too early...at all. :(

2002 was also the season where I came to the realization that the observations from camp people post here -- while very fun, a great way to pass time, and sincerely appreciated -- are largely meaningless.

The consensus here back then from those posts was that we were going to be rippin' and roarin' that season.

We kinda weren't. Like, at all.

We won't know until 10 minutes into the URI game.

I will add this

I have watched their training camp highlights

We are WAY bigger and faster than they are

Their secondary looks (and D in general) looks slow and small

If we don't score 35 or get 450+ yards, I would be stunned and disappointed

Was that the BYU debacle?

Disagree - we won't know how good the team is after that game, but we will definitely find out if they're going to stink. Struggle scoring on or stopping the Rams and it's going to be a loooong season. If it's a close game, there will be plenty of folks trying to rationalize why they could still have a good season (it's just the first game, new OC, lots of new faces, working out the kinks) - but we'll all know what's coming. Handle them easily and the optimism flows on to week two - squeak by and it's another year of :bang:

I expect points ... And a win by three TDs at least

If SU beats Rhody impressively, the optimism is likely to soar suddenly and be a bit strong. We saw that last year after Central Michigan. If SU is flat and eeks out a win against Rhody, the negativity will crater like we saw after Nova last year. It's often too much one direction or the other.

When SU does well again, the coaches will have their hands full keeping the team focused with all of the excitement, but that will be a nice challenge to have, as they say. Let's hope it happens again sometime soon. Go Cuse!!

I think the OP is spot on. I think we won't know until Wake, week 2.

Well I would hope so, considering they are an fcs team, and not a very good one.

I remember thinking we should never play @ BYU ever again.

I stand by that today.
