is syracuse doing anything for season ticket holders to announce the signing day class?

be a great time to get the coaches and people together and also use the IPF for those who have yet to see it.

seems like last time they planned one it got snowed out and never rescheduled..

i take it no one knows or most dont care to see coaches and film discussion any more?

I hope so because Tom's and others recaps for us out-of-towners is one of my favorite nights of the year.

Thanks. Appreciate that.

There is going to be an event this year. It will be held on LOI Day. I think it runs from 5-7 PM. It will be held at Manley. As in past years, it looks like they limited invitations to major donors only.

I will be attending. Probably will jump into the chat we have going in our chatroom that night when I get back, discuss things I saw and heard then. And I will post a report on the board as well.

Just my opinion, but I think if SU were smart, they should get more in line with the progressive programs in the country. Have two briefings, one for the major donors and one for smaller donors they are trying to grow into big ones.

The major donor one should include a tour of the indoor facility and a sit down dinner, where the new staff members introduce themselves and talk at some length about what they are looking for in players, what they think they currently have in players in the program and then discuss the new recruits and their film. Open bar, cocktail hour, and review the film in the team meeting conference room, as done today. It will require longer than 2 hours and that is okay. These people deserve some extra time.

The smaller donor one should be held at a facility that can hold more people. Maybe at one of the auditoriums on campus. Include some hor dorveours and have a cash bar. Have a cocktail hour, then go straight to the film. Still have the assistant coaches talk about their players, the ones in the program and the new recruits, just a little briefer treatment. This one should work in the 2 hour window.

Make it clear what you need to pay to be eligible to attend the major donor and smaller donor events. I would suggest a yearly donation in the ballpark of $500 to attend the smaller event.

More carrots need to be made available to cover the vast ground between a simple membership in the Orange Club and being a major donor.

I know there are a few but they are frankly pretty lame. This is a good carrot that could be leveraged to get a lot more fans more committed to the program. A good portion of them could, I think, be convinced to contribute more to attend the major donor recruiting briefing. Or an Ernie Davis preseason dinner event. Or a nicer couple of options for donors for the preseason scrimmage.

We need to reinstate the weekly reviews of the game the previous week/preview of the next game and give donors more access/easier access to these events. They were done for many years, then stopped during the Coach P era. Coach Marrone brought them back and Coach Shafer dropped them again.

Give people a chance to feel they are a part of the program. Give them a major of attractive options that are opened based on donor level. Make it clear what level of donation gives access to what level of access. Focus more on donors who are willing to make low medium to medium level donations. They are nice benefits for huge donors but very little to encourage people to donate in that mid range level. Focus on those people; they will be your big donors someday...

Off my soapbox. Sorry for the rant.

They had open practices at BGSU. Would die for daily reports from the official media and fans.

Good point. The nice thing about the Babers/Baylor scheme is that there are no secrets with it. Everyone knows what they are going to see. The same applies to the Tampa Cover 2 scheme on defense.

For spring football in particular, there is no reason not to open practices. I really hope it happens.

I am looking forward to seeing what happens when we run the same offense for a few years in a row too. When is the last time we went even two years in a row running the same offense with the same OC and same blocking scheme for the OL?

I think we had two years of Hackett at OC. Other than that, you probably have to go back to the Coach P era for stability on offense. It is no surprise that the second year with the same OC was by far our most successful on offense in a really long time. But even Hackett's last year, we changed the offense a lot, simplifying it and running at a fast tempo. So I think you have to go back a ridiculous number of years to find continuity on offense.

Not a lot of room in the IPF for spectators. And since the old track is gone, is there even a place for people to stand during outdoor sessions anymore?

These are the types of issues that the new fan committee should be addressing. create a web page, get the ideas submitted, address the ones they want and have a FAQ as to why they chose not to others, even if its to say they plan on looking at the issue later or just dont have time to review it yet...

At least it lets fans know they are part of the process.

I think we had Brian White for 2 straight years in 2006 and 07, for whatever that's worth (please don't ask me to quantify). But even he made changes, like pistols, and bunny hops, and my God am I depressing myself so I will stop.

The Marrone/Hackett era didn't feel like continuity on offense, because the year it took off, they completely changed the tempo, even if the plays were the same. Would have liked to see where that could have gone in 2013 and beyond but that horse is long dead.

As for open practices, that would be nice, but I have no expectations. I personally think coaches are way too paranoid, but there are very successful coaches who close everything, so I stopped criticizing it a couple years ago. Not sure it's meant to be stealth or just a lack of distractions. When Marrone started, first thing he did was open spring practices in 2009. That was cool, and people responded to it.

Whatever he decides, I just hope Coach Babers doesn't completely waste a valuable Spring Game by going full vanilla because he's forced to let people watch. If that's what you're going to do, just close it and make it more productive. We'll get over it when he wins games.

Yeah - I'm not sure there is an "on/off" switch.

I would add that we need a third level event - for the $99 ticket holders. Have the event at Lookers, and include hookers and blow. Maybe convert some of those folks to donors.

Lookers and Hookers and Blow, Oh My!

The slogan sells itself.
