2018 Yankees Thread...

If Britton had another year on his contract id feel better about the deal. Hate to give up a potential future starter but maybe they plan on resigning Britton. Gotta give up talent to get talent but I'm skeptical after last years haul we gave up for Gray.

That haul was all injured players not going to make the 40.

It was th smart play.

Yep, a rental who provides depth and insurance for a couple pitchers you probably lose in Rule 5 anyway.

I bet Happ is next, as that reportedly won’t cost much anymore either.

As a O's fan, should I like or love this deal.
(Gotta get something for walk year guys when determined to finally rebuild)

Joel Sherman‏ @Joelsherman1
Will synthesize what I've heard from several scouts about 3 prospects who would go from #Yankees to #Orioles if Britton deal finalized: Carroll big fastball up to 97 mph, misses bats, needs work on slider/control. Good competitor. Rogers a LH with feel and 4-pitch mix, projects to back-end starter, must be precise because not overpowering. Tate strong fastball/slider mix. Has grown this year, but still doesn't miss enough bats. Question if he is back-end starter or set-up man.

Tate was the 4th overall pick in the 2015 Draft.
This deal was a steal for 3 months of a a guy coming off a torn Achilles.

O’s farm system was garbage and Duquette has restocked it in 2 trades.

Essentially the Yankees traded 3 months of Carlos Beltran for 3 months of Zack Britton.

It will help them but Baltimore wins this deal if Tate even becomes just a b average starter. He is only 24 and likely will be in the big leagues by this September or early next year.

Wonder what the corresponding move will be. Assuming they don’t go to a two man bench , has to be either Holder to triple A or DFA Cole /Shreve.

Probably Cole or Shreve...Holder is pitching too well...

The Yankees would have lost those players in the Rule 5 Draft anyways. Instead they got something in return. I think it was a smart move. They have an excess of pitchers in their system. Those players, as stated previously, were not going to be protected by going on the 40 man roster. The Yankees would have lost them for nothing.

You sure Tate wouldn’t have been on the 40 man?

Cole is pitching very well too. And Shreve has looked a lot better lately and came up big a few games ago. Our bullpen isn’t an issue. Don’t get this trade at all.

Maybe the trade was more to keep away from Boston/Houston rather than to actually gain his arm? I have no idea, just speculating. I do agree all three of the above have been doing well, that is why I suggested Holder because I believe he still has options. I think we would lose Cole or Shreve in a DFA scenario.
