2018 Yankees Thread...

You sure Tate wouldn’t have been on the 40 man?
Yes.

And I would use options up before I start DFAing anyone.

This is great insurance against a bad start.

That seems like a direct reaction to the Yankees getting Britton. Interesting move and probably not a bad one for the Sox.

I think it's more of a reaction to Pomeranz' ERA of just about 7, as well as being so lefty heavy in that rotation.

The Yankees would have lost those players in the Rule 5 Draft anyways. Instead they got something in return. I think it was a smart move. They have an excess of pitchers in their system. Those players, as stated previously, were not going to be protected by going on the 40 man roster. The Yankees would have lost them for nothing.

Agreed, Tate has not been the pitcher the Rangers thought when he was drafted. His fastball had once been very above average is now just average and has been scouted as being middle relief. He would have been lost to the Rule 5 draft, as they have a few good pitchers at AA, and high A

It's more about Eduardo Rodriguez' uncertain health status. Pomeranz at best would be a fifth starter and probably out of the rotation if Wright comes back.

I expect it to be either Happ, Hamels, or someone of similar quality. That should be enough to hold on to the first wild card. If Tanaka and Gray find consistency, then this team can still make a push for the division.

Still curious to know who gets the short straw in the bullpen with him being added.
