2018 Yankees Thread...

Happ is an okay starter but I like the price paid for Eovaldi over the price paid for Happ when both are rentals.

Happ is better but he doesn’t scare you and Eovaldi’s stuff can be good. Happ is just a 3rd starter and Eovaldi a 5.

Nathan Eovaldi doesn't scare anyone

He does but they shelled him last time out about ten days ago.

The Yankees are looking to bolster their starting pitching, and Happ has had success against the Red Sox, the Yankees' chief rival in the American League East, with a 0.84 ERA in two starts against Boston this season. In his last outing against the Red Sox, he gave up five runs, including a grand slam to Mookie Betts, in a 6-4 loss, but the runs were unearned. He is 7-4 with a 2.98 ERA in his career against the Red Sox.

The Yankees and Red Sox play 10 more times this season.

I am very surprised that the Yankees did not have to give up more.

For an almost 36 year old, 3 month rental...I would say that it seems like a fair trade right now. Good for Drury...hopefully he will get some more consistent playing time.

It was a 5 out inning, and a 13 pitch at bat that Betts won.

I'd like to hope that with Torres and Bird in the field, that 13 pitch at bat never happens.

Happ has a good record vs the sux...which increases his value to the Yankees...
He was good before we had JD Martinez. His numbers this year may look good because of an error that made 6 runs look like only 1 ER in his 2nd start. Mookie Betts hit the 13 pinch GS off Happ.
He had good numbers 2 years ago against Boston when Toronto and Boston were head to head for the AL East. The lineup this year is better than than those teams.

Again Happ is no bum but he isn’t the starter that scares you. He could easily shut teams down or throw up on himself.

Of course he doesn’t. He is just an arm to help win the division.
He isn’t worth the difference in prospects paid for the Yankees to get Happ IMO.
The Red Sox traded just another guy. Drury has atleast some decent upside.

The guy who scared me was Madison Bumgarner.
I mean Yankees have added 2 good pitchers can’t do anything but tip the cap to good moves but they paid legit prospects to get them.
Bumgarner is the guy in October where I felt he wins a game by himself.
He is available for the right package.

Are you comparing the two for arguing sake?

Both just got an arm to help out. Both traded away player(s) who have no role in their future.

After the migraine situation, I thought Drury was damaged goods. I wish him good health, but they don't typically just go away.

Thought we'd do better than Happ. We're just adding numbers on the staff.

The Yankees needed starting help.
The Red Sox didn’t need a starter for anything more than a stop gap till Rodriguez comes back in 3 weeks.

Happ isn’t just an arm. He is the Yankees 4th pitcher right now and will be in line for a playoff start.
Eovaldi will not start in the playoffs

Again I give the Yankees credit for making moves but this isn’t really changing the division race.

I agree with this. I would like to know what the price tag was/is for a higher end starter, such as Bumgarner.
Maybe Cashman thought they would be giving up too much for a higher end guy. I would be willing to bet such a trade would require Sheffield and one of Andujar/Torres. Has already said Torres is untouchable.

Well I think the packages sent for both Britton and Happ plus Frazier gets you real close for Bumgarner.

Your farm system is deep.

Not particularly thrilled with Happ, but he's probably the 5th starter now (not 4th) replacing German/Cessa/etc. and behind Severino, Tanaka, CC, and Gray. Rumor has it that teams are interested in Gray and maybe he ends up in a trade for someone more higher end than Happ.
