2020-21 ny mets thread

Conforto should turn in his manhood.

Mattingly should be going scorched earth right now. Unscrewing bases. Ripping open rosin bags. Throwing seeds and bubble gum all over the place!! Lol.
It was a bad call for sure.

You should have to make an attempt to get out of the way.
At the very least you should not be allowed to lean all the way into the strike zone in order to get hit.

I do see how they could miss it live speed. But the replay was blatant. Ridiculous that they can’t overturn that with a review.

you still have to decide if it was a strike. it was close. the replay shows it was really close.. the confusing part is why the ump wanted to call strike but changed it to HPB.

if a player gets hit in the strike zone, it should be a strike.
it is a strike.. thats why it was a strange call. actually wonder why thats not a valid reason to appeal the play. but watching the replay it was not a slam dunk strike call.

The Empire State Building is all lit up in orange and blue tonight.

Might be to celebrate Kamari’s commitment. Or the lax victory over Albany.

Or the Mets win in their home opener.

Probably a bit of all of them. ;)

It's a memorial tribute t o Conforto's elbow.

This article has an interesting quote:

"A ball in the strike zone that hits a batter, whether that batter leaned in intentionally or not, is supposed to be called a strike, and Kulpa’s initial reaction suggests he believed the pitch to be in the strike zone. But replay review only allows the umpires to check whether the ball did indeed hit Conforto, and not whether it would have been a strike."

In that case, doesn't the strike call stand?

yeah. thats the strange part.. he was calling it a strike.. even said so after the game.. in that case he screwed up by rule and that should be an appealable offense.

The umpire has now admitted he blew the Conforto call but it's too late to do anything about it.

Keith Hernandez said, (not an exact quote), of DeGrom: "In this day of studying teams ahead of time and having a game plan, Jake just throws his best pitches and if he's got his best stuff, game over.

The problem is, the game's not over. If we are only going to ask starting pitchers to pitch the first 6 innings, it's up to the team - the batters, the fielders and bullpen - to win the game. A pitcher like Jake just gives them a head start. really, it's time to drop won-lost records and just evaluate pitchers on their own individual statistics as we do with the other players. Compare those numbers to the league norms and do the same for pitchers of the past.

Conforto should stick his elbow out more he can't get a big hit to save his life.

Another wasted dominant DeGrom outing. So frustrating. Can't even put 1 on the freaking board and only 3 hits.
DeGrom is such a phenomenal pitcher. In full command. That fastball is too good.

So I'm totally down with more 8 and 7 inning games. Might actually have a shot at the division that way!

Good day today all kidding aside. Signs of life from Lindor and Stroman looks great.

Now if we can just figure out how to get DeGrom some freaking run support..

they should bring back the Sunday double-header and shorten the season by 2 weeks.

Yesterday was promising... Mets bats seemed to wake up against a really good pitcher in Nola. Both pitchers looked really good... Stroman was dominant. Familia was actually throwing strikes and as one of the announcers pointed out, if Familia can throw strikes he can go back to being a dominant pitcher.

The most concerning point to me is that Conforto looks completely lost at the plate.

I also think we are still 2 pitchers short for how poorly this team hits with RISP and for how bad the pen has looked. Until Mets batters do better, our pitching staff needs to keep the opponent to 3 runs or less and as bad as our pen has looked, we need starters to go 6 minimum and hopefully 7. Lugo will be back and Carrasco and Thor will be back at some point and a staff where this version of Walker is our #5 pitcher is going to be fun to watch. Mets need to tread water until that point and that means the bats will have to win some 7-5 type games.

Carassco Lugo and Thor coming back is going to help a lot. I think eventually this team will hit. Sandy is going to need to get bullpen help. Shane Greene is out there.
