2021-22 Transfer Thread

Alex Trippi on the list for UNC could be a good pick-up. Sort of lost in the numbers game with UNC this past Spring, but still scored 25 points.

Yes, I forgot about him - rumors seem to point to him joining Georgetown. I think that's why I had written him off. Good player though.

Why would Tillman even want a midfielder who can't shoot or dodge?
That’s what you got from my thoughts on him? He can shoot and shoot well he just seems more comfortable from mid range and inside rather than a crazy fast shot from 15 yards. Look at some Cornell lax highlights if you don’t believe me. Dodging maybe he can back down a guy or something but he is certainly not an ankle breaker type of dodger. His top skills are finishing inside and passing.

I was joking around. Donville does seem to have a nice mid-range shot, enough of one to keep the defense from collapsing.

Those 2 UVa freshmen on the transfer list, Maher and Harmeyer, were both 4 star recruits. I would sort of expect Harmeyer to return to a Maryland school if he transfers. There is also Grant Mitchell (OSU) on the transfer portal. He was a big time recruit, but didn't do to well this past Spring. Maybe he would do well under Gary Gait's tutelage.

Maher seems rumored to be going to Brown. I'm also no insider, just relaying what I've read on Fanlax.

Spot on - it's really hard to determine who the top names in the portal are right now. Tehoka obviously, but remains to be seen if a team will take a chance on him. Jason Knox and Drew Blanchard the FOGO stick out to me, as well as Owen Murphy and Evan Zinn from Hopkins, and Gavin Tygh from UVA, but none of those names register like the top players from last year. Gait mentioned goalie and there seem to be some interesting options in Dolan from Binghamton, Dobson from St. Bonnies and Brandau from Maryland. Peter Rizzoti from Dartmouth seems like an interesting prospect, had two goals, 35 groundballs and 27 caused turnovers his freshman year in 2019.

'Cuse could certainly benefit from Blanchard at the face-off, but have to imagine Maryland is going to go after a FOGO pretty aggressively. Tehoka would certainly field a need but I can't imagine the new coaching staff taking a chance on him. I still wonder about Murphy but have written about him enough for now. Zinn could be an intriguing prospect if he sticks at SSDM. Knox being a lefty attackman probably means he doesn't align with what Syracuse needs. Not sure what the plan is for goalie, but Dolan does intrigue me. Rizotti sounds like he could benefit the team and allow Kennedy to move to close, but on paper he doesn't have the typical links to SU (from Lincoln-Sudbury in Mass).

There very likely could be more players in the portal, or players not in the portal but looking to make a move - Donville was never reported as being in the portal to my knowledge, and neither were any of the Notre Dame transfers.
A couple of notes: I had heard that Murphy to Maryland was almost 100% a done deal a couple of weeks ago. Tillman may have been waiting for Khan to decide so I'm unsure where Murphy will land. I may be mistaken, but I believe Rizotti plans on graduating from Dartmouth spring 2022 and will use his 5th year at another school as a grad transfer in 2023. I have been wrong in the past with Brian Cameron, but that's what I heard. I believe Dartmouth goalie Danny Hincks is planning on doing the same and is someone to look out for.

Major log jam at attack for Maryland, someone has to be leaving or that's a major mistake if he ever wants to see the field.

Is Maryland the only team taking transfers? Sheesh. Interesting that he hooks back up with former Hopkins coach Benson. Have to wonder if Petro was interested? Again, Syracuse has a glaring hole at attack.

But yeah, hard to understand how he fits in with the Terps offense. Man up specialist? He has four years of eligibility so maybe there’s an understanding he won’t play this year. Very strange to be honest.

Best offensive talent left in portal is Tehoka. Be more concerned about him moving ball than having the right dude and fitting in. Has all the tools and believe he played mid for Iroquis national team. Would Cuse dare

They will find room for Murphy eventually if he builds off his freshman year potential. He can play middie as well. Showed a lot of promise as a freshman but wonder if the year off will hold him back.

uva's will rock from a talent perspective would be a great pickup for anyone. mostly a 2nd lsm behind conners, he put up big numbers when he got in, and is very good on ball. got nicked up at least in '20, and took the last year off though, and no one really knows why.

and hoos' regan quinn broke into the rotation at middie his freshman year (att in h.s.?), then had some injuries. when he's gotten time/ per min played, he's produced and would help anyone at 2 mid. size and a good shot.

He definitely crossed my mind. Seemed to have crazy good stick skills and be kind of a takeaway artist. Maybe not the fastest guy? I haven't really seen that much of him so you would know better. Also a year off with no explanation is a red flag.

Getting to be slim pickings in portal for attack outside Tehoka n Trippi. Saw Morin of nd is HS , game somewhat similar to Seebold. Did post 23-13-36 as soph then injury n never got back into lineup but bio shows 4-2 against Duke and hat trick vs Maryland that year.

Maybe something brewing off portal otherwise wouldn't reach just to add. Intrigued by on our own Berkman who gets rare mention but possesses a decent all around skillset. oF all the internal candidates his game is problably closest to resembling Refhuss

I’ll just leave this here. FWIW, there was a tryout for the Iroquois Nationals Men’s “Sixes” team competing in the ‘22 World Games held in Syracuse but I believe that was June 19-20.

Honestly, I’d be all for bringing Tehoka in for a year with the understanding that he’s already used his “first 2 strikes” at Albany & any further incidents would remove him from the team. While there are certainly some semi-similar red-flags, the details & outcomes of his & Scanlan’s situations are in no way comparable & honestly shouldn’t even factor into a decision to bring him in.

By all accounts, Tehoka allegedly got in a few scrums with teammates on the practice field, had a tendency to get flagged for cheap shots during games, escalated that sideline scrum vs Bingo but was only sticking up for a teammate after the Bingo player intentionally bulldozed them in the substitution box, & then finally got into an alleged shouting match with teammates/coaches in the locker room after the Stony Brook game which ended up being the final straw.

He was also suspended for a game his Soph year for tagging a stick-stringing company in an IG post, something that would be fine under the new NIL rules.

As for his in-game antics, they’re not that much worse than things we’ve seen some of our own players do in the past. Nate Solomon’s occasional boneheaded, costly cheap shots as well as his postgame scuffle at UVA in ‘18 come to mind. Without naming names, we’ve also had practice field/locker room fights between teammates in the past that were resolved in-house, not to mention players fighting (in at least one case, sucker-punching) other students & even law enforcement before ultimately being re-instated.

A change of scenery & the chance to earn his degree under the Promise scholarship while resurrecting his image/brand/career on college Lax’s biggest stage before turning pro should be enough for Tehoka to buy-in, keep his head on straight, & assimilate himself with teammates.

You make a very compelling argument! I still don't see it happening, though it wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world. When I read he tweet, I think he is just playing golf in Syracuse? Per his intsgram stories, it certainly looks that way.

I guess the bottom line for me is: after kicking one star player of the team last season, which was truly one of the most disrupting and havoc inducing things I've seen happen to the SU program in a long long time - I find it hard to beleive that they would take another risk on a player who had been kicked off his team just last year. I know you point out that the reasons they were kicked off their teams were completely different, I still don't know how much of a difference that should make? It sounds like Scanlan was not a well liked member of his team even before the incident that got him kicked off, and the behavior exhibited by Tehoka sounds like he could also rub his teammates the wrong way. On top of that, I think you'd have to design your entire offense around him, which I don't think is worth it for a one year player.

If there was an annulment that he had decided on Syracuse, I wouldn't be upset. I just don't know how much better it would make the team, and I don't know how much more disruption this team can take to be honest. I know he's talented and it would drum up tons of media coverage and hype. Adding up everything, I just don't think its worth it.

That should put an end to any questions of his status for SU.

In a normal year I could see this being an option but with Scanlan's well publicized issues, SU would be hard pressed to bring in Nanticoke after getting dismissed form Albany, who isn't exactly known as being a bastion of discipline. I do think he would help the offense as there is room at attack and we could always move Seebold back to middie if necessary but I just don't see it.

I will say that I think the coaching change has probably hindered SU in hitting the transfer portal so far. I am a bit suprised we haven't been more active to date as a few of these guys would have been really good additions. Guys like Lully and Khan were never realistic options but a guy like Murphy or even Trippi would have made sense. I do think that Gait is caught in between as he has a monster class coming in next summer and he probably wants to keep some spots open, on the other hand this current class doesn't have a lot of guys that jump out as day 1 guys (save for a couple) so the question becomes do you try and roll with what you have on the roster or make some strategic pickups.

My hope is that a few of the young guys who were either hurt or didnt' get much PT because they weren't able to get a full off-season in and missed their Sr years, take that next step. I believe Birtwistle and the Furman transfer were going to push for PT before they got injured and clearly Berkman was not back yet at 100% after his ACL injury.

Still I think we do need to bring in a few guys. Wgsr mentioned Will Rock and as a UVA fan he knows him first hand, I think that would be a great pick up for SU as Kennedy is almost assured of bumping back down. Not sure about a young attack guy like Mahar or someoen else as you have Hiltz already plus Spallina and Leo next year and Ferris and this years incoming attack recruits. To me a midfielder would make a lot of sense, not sure there is one out there though at this point. I guess maybe Drake? Wouldn't mind a certain Sr middie at Hobart transferring back home.

I'm all with you here... with Gait / Petro coming in, I am praying that some of the guys look at this upcoming season as an opportunity to make it happen. I would vastly prefer this to the transfer portal.

The Michigan attackman Buckanavage is pretty good. He scored 48 points in 13 games back in 2019. The question is has he recovered from whatever injury was holding him back this past spring.
