2021 Fall Camp Starts Friday August 6th

I know we're all injury obsessed (including Bailey), but having guys limited isn't a big deal. Happens everywhere.

Sometimes the illnesses worry me because you don't know what it is. Okechukwu was once listed as illness for over a year. Thankfully he's back.

Okechukwu's illness was different - his family specifically asked Syracuse media to keep it off the record, even for an off-season feel-good piece. (I don't know what the diagnosis was.)

I hope so.

nothing would make me happier to see TD kill it.

If TD could be vastly better than he has been and meets what we all thought he would be here we will be doing great this season. If he could get some looks to get drafted into the NFL that would be fantastic too.

However, I just don’t see it. But I’m hoping to be wrong
Dino will give Tommy all ties. Let's hope he does well as he stuck with the program and has taken a beating. Still stand by what I'm hearing about Shred. Hopefully we have 2 or 3 good QB's

As long as we have one who can move the chains, and put Touchdowns on the scoreboard I don't care who it is.

Notre Dame showed how to beat TD, and he hasn't gotten better since then. His problem is not physical talent, it is whether or not he has the ability to react to the defense, and occasionally, create something out of nothing.
That is what good QB's do, and TD hasn't shown that ability. Plays break down, and as the leader he has to make something out of nothing.
I think this is a weird BS metric based on fond memories of EDs ability.

There are a bunch of guys who beat people with their arms and slide around in the pocket. Creating something out of nothing is not his strength. TD has shown he can put the ball on a rope to just about anywhere on the field. That’s his thing. He needs more time and needs to grow at reading the defense, taking chances trusting his arm (not his freelance ability). A good run game should help him out in that regard.

He doesn’t need to be vastly better - check the stats. We need a better run game and a bit more time to take the pressure down a notch.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Sometimes I only remember the bad things.

I think that this is a good analysis of Tommy. I would add seeing the field better when he has time. Also, as a corollary to your observation about taking chances with his arm, be willing to thread the needle into tight spots when a guy has separation but is not wide open.

It is all about growth in his position. Every QB has growth areas. Two years ago, Tommy made some monumental brain farts that were the equal of anything that freshman year Troy Nunes did but by the end of the season he had really eliminated most of that. He grew.

Most fans, myself included, have a bad tendency to define a guy's unfinished career based solely what they have see so far. It's always noticeable on the basketball board but not infrequently on the football board as well.

I expect Tommy to have tightened things up in his areas that needed improving. If he hasn't, we should find out about it pretty early.

I'm also guilty about waxing poetic about these two games. I went back and looked at his completions.

Against FSU: 5 bubble screens. 2 Fades to Custis. Two first read hot reads to slot receiver. 1 quick flare to RB and that TE back of the end zone throw to Ravian Pierce. Not a second read all day long.

Against UNC: More of the same. Both TDs came on first reads to Johnson (looked like he may have initially looked off the safety) and to Pierce on that same TE play. A couple more fades to Custis. More hot reads to the slot receiver. I did see two check down completions. One was a very nice toss to Taj on 1st and 10. The other was on 3rd and 17 to Strickland.

The Physical throws he made were impressive...but he wasn't exactly dissecting the defense apart with complex reads. We hoped that would come with more experience, and we just haven't seen the progression you would hope for.

2019 and 2020 were filled with anxious and panic filled throws. I hope much can be chalked up to the play of the OL, but i'm skeptical.
Thanks for looking beneath the surface.

There are many college QBs, every season, who can counter a pass rush by quickly finding an alternate receiver, by rolling away and making plays, or by being part of the run game to keep defenses off-balance.
Dungey could do these things - particularly by always being a threat to run. Helped the OL look good.
‘Open question with TD - have to see when the real action starts. It isn’t only whether the OL has improved.
Dungey was .500 in his starts before 2018 with most wins being against G5/FCS. Nobody outruns a poor line to any real extent. Maybe you save a win or two but a QB is not turning a 5-7 team into a 10-3 team with all the same parts (And vice versa)

qb reads can go a couple of ways.. if you have a good pre-snap read then maybe you dont need the 2nd read to look good.. if you have a bad pre-snap read if often leads to bad 2nd reads as well.

also a good read does not always mean the ball comes out fast and that depends on the play call.. could be the read is the single high and then you need to post snap read the safety before know where the throw goes. but if the play is a bubble screen maybe it does come out quick.

often the issue is that the qb and the WR is not reading the play the same for us.. coaches talked about it all the time.. ED had a huge issue with completing passes but throwing to the wrong player so we got 3-5 yds not 10-15..

He needs to be significantly better.
“Significantly” or “vastly” are both kind of words that mean “a lot”…

Let’s put some numbers on it. How much better than 2019 should we need him to be to win 7 games? Passing yards, completion %, and TD/INT.

I’ll do the same. I think an improved run game is a big part of the equation, so let’s throw in yards per carry or something.

Did you not watch the games the last 2 years? Your stats game is a waste of time.
