2021 Fall Camp Starts Friday August 6th

Has the media been blocked? Haven’t seen a stretching update in a while

I heard SU was tipped of that Clemson was stealing some of the stretching exercises and we don’t want to lose the element of surprise when we play them.

gbo - can you confirm, when you get a chance of course. I’m sure you’ve got hours of free practice video to go through from yesterday.

Yeah, I saw an offense with multiple problems all over the field. If you’re saying “he’s got to be significantly better” I’d like to quantify it.

Look for some they see the offense and blame the QB without doing the homework. I’m not saying if he stays the same as 2020, we’re going to win a lot of games. I think he needs to get better too. But there other areas that make it possible to allow him to do what he does best, that have a chance to be better.

If we have our RB run for an extra 100 yards a game, Tommy will benefit by not getting sacked as much.

good talk, tho lol
Below is what many have seen watching Devito the past couple of years. These issues seem obvious to me. If you think you can quantify them somehow good for you.
To me there are multiple things to work on and that makes it significant. There is a reason there is a QB battle going on in camp.
We all know he has a strong arm but he needs to be much more than that as said below to reach his full potential and for the offense to reach it’s full potential if Tommy is going to be the starter.
Tommy is a 5th year player, he needs to be one of the leaders and not rely on “ifs and buts” if we are to get the candy and nuts this season as Coach Mac would say.
You are right on. Its a lazy analysis when people just say the O line was bad. At some point people have to look beyond the poor line play and evaluate him in other areas. Scooch you actually do that. These are areas Ive watch TD since his red shirt freshman year. His quick game, when he has a clean pocket, his pre snap protections, his post snap reads, his decision making under duress (what every QB has to do at some point). He struggles in some of those areas. Like you said the happy feet has been an issue. Some people just dont see it or they refuse to admit there is something off with him. It needs to be corrected or he will never reach his full potential. Thats what the staff is working on.

His sack rate has to go down. He was sacked nearly 2x as much as the other QBs the last 3 years. If it was just OL the rate wouldn't be so different.

He has to stop with the boneheaded plays. Running out of bounds. Throwing it away on 4th. Etc.

He has to extend plays or make plays away from the primary objective.

None of these can really be quantified via stats. His stats are fine.

Until he proves otherwise, DeVito is a great 7 on 7 player. That’s how he got his rep in the Elite 11.
His last two games other than the completion percentage he was very good. Made some great throws. Much better than the first two games.

As others have mentioned - including me, a lot - those are the things to work on. If he fixes those things he'll improve in nearly every metric/stat.

How this all started is that I said he didn't need to be vastly better, if the running game and OL play improved. You said "significantly better" and I don't know what that means with no context. If I say "better" and you say "a lot better" I don't think it's wrong for me to ask what you mean?

I like everyone else believe TD will be the qb coming out of camp. Hopefully he has corrected his issues and is successful.
I like others do no care who wins the qb battle coming out of camp or plays the season as long as we win.
I do think TD has an advantage in camp based on knowledge of the system and the fact they do not really go live. Sharder’s difference is the ability to use his legs when things break down. Breaking tackles and getting yards. That cannot happen even in a scrimmage when you are down by being touched.
Time will tell. If TD is able to fix his issues and win great. If not I hope the staff does not hesitate to go to the next option.

For TD to be the focal point of the O he does need to be vastly better. For the run game to be the focal point he only needs to manage the game (like FSU 2018). You would expect a highly rated QB in year 5 to be a focal point, but I doubt we see that. If we have a strong run game, it will minimize the need for a strong QB play.

In 2019 we beat up Duke and also beat Wake without good QB play. I think that is the more likely path to 6 Ws than TD having it all click.

Yep. That's what I was getting at.

I hope there is a video of this. That would be amazing to watch.
It’s funny but I’m my mind this series of post and the other one about the major delays between drills (in addition to our record) makes me wonder if this is amateur hour on the Hill

I hear ya but I wouldn't put too much thought into it. It seems more like they are having fun with super seniors, etc. but we all know Dino, if practices were terrible, this wouldn't happen. This may be a good and only sign that they are where they want to be in practice.

Not sure you can extrapolate how he is running camp based on limited observations and data points.

nothing wrong with having some fun, its a game after all

If Chestnut is the same playmaker in games as he seems to be in practice, we might be on to something.
Was thinking the same thing. I feel like every video the football team puts out he is grabbing an interception or has the ball in his hand somehow. Hopefully that translates to games. Could he be our version of the Honey Badger? Big comparison but both smaller in frame (in terms of football) obviously a big comparison for not a taking a snap yet in a real game but people on the program seem to be raving about him and the videos seem to match that. He’s probably in my top 5 of Cuse players I’m looking forward to watching game 1 to see what he brings.

The concern is when it is 3rd and 6, 7 or 8 and he has to make the play with pressure. Will he be able to deliver.
Concerning fl st. That game our D dominated the line of scrimmage preventing them from really scoring. TD did not have to be special to win that game.

Was most concerned about the delays between drills more than anything. Coach a lot of baseball now and you can always tell the good teams from bad by how they practice and warmup

It was 3-0 when he came in. Scored another 27 after that. Against FSU

We need to get good enough in other areas that we don't need a special talent like Eric to bail us out. Strong D, improved running game, and a decent QB should be enough this season to win 6.

We all want special from the QB position, but our history shows that we can't rely on that happening. TD played well enough vs FSU to win the game. That's what I want.

When we lose we can find issues everywhere, when we win it's because we're loose and have fun with the game

If we had more people watching all of practice, then *maybe* we have a conversation

Come on, be honest. Your point is to argue and nitpick against most criticism. You aren’t really trying to uncover new information. While it is a noble thing to try to protect the players and coaches it seems to blind you from the reality of certain situations.
