2021 Fall Camp Starts Friday August 6th

I really think we can be a good run team. We can be even better next year. I’m hoping all the lineman come back. We just lose Servais. Also hope Howard comes back. Tucker Howard Lutz trio could be tough to stop in 2022.
It sounds absurd to say this given how many years we’ve been pushing to throw more (I guess everything comes full circle…), but I think we can be a good run team this year. Looking at the depth chart, tons of unknown at wideout. At running back we’ve got, imo, plenty of bodies that can have success.

Some success will make them want to come back. Really need a good year this year. Important beyond Dino. It has a ripple effect. Existing players, recruits, portal activities both coming and going, fans, etc...this is a year where we need one in the "win column ". I think we will surprise teams.

Yes. We have bodies and despite what people think we have a great scheme. Just have to stay healthy and execute.

Don’t forget Hough.

He’s a very large, surprisingly fast human being, who is good at running over, around, and past defenders.

Good points

I might also add that La Familia was really, really well done. Got people amped for the season. Was the access everyone wanted. And the team responded with a dud of a season.

Not saying the two are related in any way, but the head coach can certainly make those connections if he wants to. I also don’t think La Familia had much to do with the Clemson sellout that season.

It’s important to see both perspectives.

I totally agree with this.

I also envision a scenario where the offense is solid for the first couple games and Tommy will be playing well if unspectacular. However with the run game being highlighted we will hear cries about how much better the run game (and offense) would be if we got Shrader more snaps because its one more guy on the field that can carry the ball effectively.

What people won’t realize is one of the reasons the run game will be so good (beyond an improved line and ALL ACC RB) is that the defense will only be able to keep 5-6 in the box out of respect for the deep ball and WR screens. If Shrader was in, we would likely see more 7-8 man in the box.

This is the reason a spread can work really well with a pass first QB. If a defense has to respect the sideline and deep ball, because the QB can hit those patterns, then they can’t put 7-8 in the box to stop the run (Even if they want to).

7-8 man box. That will allow the Wr's to feast off 1v1 match ups. That can be just as benefitial to us if the Wr's can win those match ups. I agree with what you are saying. Im just not ready to say teams wont respect Shrader's passing. TD is the better pure passer but is he that much better throwing than him? Keep in mind Shrader has the ability to throw on the run. That keeps defenses on their heels. Allows you to have explosive plays down field as well. Tommy hasnt figured that part out yet.

I think everyone is overreacting, it’s not like Dino asked the fans for support and to come to the dome to watch games. Oh wait…….
You realize that only hardcore FB nerds care about pre-season camp, and they already attend the games. The product in the field brings off season/pre-season interest, not the other way around

Pretty simple stuff actually. You get people who might care less to care by providing info and access.
No, you get them to care about info and access by winning (and doing it in style). Without winning, people don’t care.

Was a bit surprised to have Dino essentially say before camp the QB position was wide open.

imho, if he thought Devito was the guy, he’d keep him as a clear #1 publicly. Dino saying the race is open is him begging Shrader to win it and take a leadership role on this team ala Dungey. That message was for the team as much as the fans.

I expect Shrader will be the guy from day 1. I would take with a grain of salt everything said (which was very litttle) pre - portal deadline.

or its the opp and he wants what he thinks is TDs upside to finally come thru in a consistent way..

I think Dino is clearly not 100% confident in TD being the guy, but I don't think I'd say he has no confidence in him. But it's too much of a risk to roll with only TD after another offseason where he has no one pushing him. Really outside of Taj, Davis, and maybe Tucker there should be competition at every position on offense.

Is that Elmore #5? Dude is looking way more ripped than he used to. My gawwwd...Elmore, Tuck, Howard, Hough and Lutz? Give the defenses we face a steady diet of these guys hitting the hole in the first half and dbacks will just be quitting in the second half as the line and lbs are worn out. Dino should pair up Elmore and Howard/Hough and call it the "Clubber Lang package " because they forecast nothing but "pain" for the defense.

My point went over your head. It’s not about pre-season camp specifically.

Too simplistic and again, not attempting to think about what was written. You will get people interested by winning, looking at winning as the only thing to generate interest is lazy and a cop out.

According to the roster Lutz is bigger than Howard.

This stuff used to bother me as well, now I realize the most important part of fan engagement by a long shot is the number under the “W” column. Nothing else really matters. Die hard are diehards. You need the casual fan influenced by the success.
And Syracusans are notorious for being front-runners.
