2021 PGA Tour

this is why so many try to get a sponsored.. and some of that if they get good goes back to the sponser for awhile

pga guys have to pay $100 a yr and then $50 an event for the locker

Many do but not all of them can pull them in either. Even for those that get minimal sponsors it is still not an easy existence for quite a few of them.

Let's call the KFT and PGA Canada the minor leagues of golf. Being a minor league golfer is so much more difficult than a minor league hockey player. A player in the AHL at minimum is going to make at least $90K guaranteed -- its not great but its enough to live life with a bit of ease. Even an ECHL player that is making at least $50K, can probably get himself a decent apartment. Again not glamorous but not as tough as a golf minor leaguer.

As for the $100 a year, is that what the PGA member fee costs? It's a nice life on the PGA tour if you can consistently stay in that top 125 -- they also apparently have a great pension which is based on cuts made and earnings which also benefits career journeyman. Thinking of a guy like David Hearn for example.

This morning on the Golf Channel pre-game talk it was reported Rahm was in the PGA's contact-tracing protocol all through the week, testing negative every day. He also advised all his playing partners of this so they and their caddies could keep an appropriate distance through their rounds. None of his playing partners from the week, all of whom were interviewed & questioned by PGA officials, has been entered into the protocol subsequent to Rahm's positive test. Further, FWIW, both Cantlay and Sheffler had contracted covid-19 earlier in the year.
I know that if you have been vaccinated, you are not subject to these daily tests. Rahm came in close contact with someone who was COVID positive early in the week and needed to be tested daily as a result.

If other players were not put in the protocol, it is surely because they were vaccinated and Rahm was not.

It is unfathomable that someone in a profession with so much money at stake on a weekly basis would choose to remain unvaccinated but that is apparently exactly with Rahm did.

He will be a cautionary tale for all pro golfers, and perhaps all pro athletes now.

Unfortunate that this could have all been prevented so easily.

why are they immune? having covid doesnt make you immune
If you had a COVID infection, then you are most likely more immune than if you got the vaccine.

Thanks for the article. Interesting opinion, but he doesn't make a strong case for it. The vaccines target a few antigenic sites. When a person becomes infected, the body makes antibodies against all the viral antigenic sites. Thus, I conclude that a previously infected person is more likely to have better immunity. There may be a reason to get the vaccine after an infection, but the good doc did not explain why.

Since I'm here.

I posted several months ago that Phil was washed up. He is but the golf gods gave him his golden pond Nicklaus moment, after which he immediately went back to missing cuts.

I also posted that Spieth probably would not win another major and only had a 50% chance of winning again. He immediately started finishing in the top 10 every week and won the Valero. Has to be one of the worst golf predictions ever posted here.

Placed four different bets at the casino. Four guys to finish top ten: Rahm, Finau, Leishman and Reed. Hopefully collect all four.

to win Reed, Phil, Rahm, Xander,

top 10 Rose, Simpson plus above 4.

Rose is a very good longshot bet. I was going to include him but ending up passing. I dont think Phil plays a competitive weekend.

The pros and their damn green reading books are as bad as kids with their cell phones. I'd be okay if they were outlawed. I'm tired of seeing the players and their caddies both hauling the damn things out before and after every putt. Read the freaking green like the rest of us have to. And we don't have a caddie to help.

Rory McIlroy: Green books should be 'outlawed'

Yep.

currently 2nd place in a majors pool and bet the golfers the guy ahead of me has this week in Spieth (16-1) and Reed (25-1). Also put some small bets on Xander (18-1), Morikawa (20-1), Zalatoris (35-1), Simpson (40-1), Cameron Smith (70-1), Fleetwood (90-1), and Kisner (400-1).

Once again Louis Oosthuizen is in contention at a major after being relatively quiet leading up to it -- remind myself once again to always bet on him in top 5 betting for the majors -- and yet always forget.

Post above was during the PGA one month ago.
I forgot to bet on him again!

As long as Finau shoots par or better this afternoon all four of my guys should make the cut. Tomorrow is moving day. Hopefully they all move straight up the charts.

jncuse- I picked up your fellow citizen (Hughes) at + 8000 this morning. I know very little about him - lol - is he capable of getting it done tomorrow? Gonna be tough as there are some big names in contention.

I think he has a decent shot because he is very streaky. When he is playing bad it last a while, but when he figures it out he tends to play well for a while.

He doesn't have a top 50 finish in the majors so he has no majors pedigree. He won in 2016, but didn't really contend to win much agains until the 2020 season -- when he did contend in tourneys he tended not to give it away but just come up short.

He had missed 5 cuts in a row, which I suspect is part of the reason he was giving out such high odds. But the thing is he has a history of coming back strong off bad streaks and playing well. Last year he missed 8 cuts out of 11 over a run with no top 50 finishes -- then he went on a run of three top 6 finishes in 6 events.

I think many Canadians have inherited the post 2003 Mike Weir Sunday syndrome where they get in contention and fall apart on Sunday. Weir was terrible on Sunday after his great 2003 season. Graham Deleat was terrible on Sundays when he was a top player. Connors has been in contention and that made some bad putts on Sunday the past year or so. But as noted above Hughes played pretty well last year when he was in contention.

Great leaderboard with big names like Koepka and Morikawa stepping up as well today.

Unfortunately since the 2020 PGA there has not been that many tight finishes at the end (Johnson and Matsuyama at the Masters, DeChambeau at the US Open, and Phil at the PGA). The 2021 PGA was exciting because Phil won, but we really could use a bunch finished down the stretch. And it seems almost certain we are going to get it.

I just put $10 on Harris English at 125-1. He is finished at -3.
Not likely, but crazy enough that he could get in a playoff with all the people falling.
