2021 USMNT Thread

Agree re: Brooks. Hasn’t looked the same this past week, although I couldn’t watch the second half last night.
Berhalter yanked Brooks at half time. I think he did it to allow Sands to drop into the back line where he was pretty effective during gold cup.

Really enjoyed catching up here as I also was ready to boot GGG from the stadium at halftime. Some important lessons here:

Antonee Robinson is the starter at LB unless he's hurt or needs rest.
Tyler Adams should only be playing at CM.
Ricardo Pepi is different from the other Forwards as he showed a different skill on three goals (holdup play, aerial prowess, deft assist). Pray he continues to develop.

I still think GGG is crap. He needs to take his XI, decide what subs he would do, and then start that XI. Roll on!!! Would love to see 7pts next round.

Hopefully Chris Richards gets a run of games at Hoffenheim, would love to see him next to Miles Robinson.

On top of Richards same for Hoppe. Hoppe showed ample willingness to mix it up and effectively keep the ball on the attack.

Agree on Adams and also- I love what Miles Robinson brings as a defender and as a threat on set pieces but his service out of the back is putrid. Way too many long balls to no one and some poor shorter passes too.

On top of that I'd like to see Horvath/Steffen again. I like Turner but much like Miles, his service and passing is abysmal at times and has put the opponents in all 3 WCQ in position to counter. Some of that is Berhalter but we need A Robinson, Adams, Mckennie, Dest etc connect things together so the CBs are not scrambling back to defend the counter 4 possessions in a row trying.

It’s going to suck if Berhalter is the manager thru the WC as I like our roster and really think we could be dangerous in the WC.

With him it’s going to lower our potential and be frustrating.
I just hope his contract isn’t any longer than the 2022 WC and we can get a new one soon.

Ok so, I saw y’all chatting about the game last night and figured I’d tune in. Google told me the game was streaming on Paramount +, I have Paramount + on my Amazon Prime account but could not for the life of me find the game to stream.

Am I missing something on how to watch the game through Paramount +?

*replace game w match* hahaha

Wait paramount+ is on amazon prime? How did you do that?

I realize this is neither here nor there, but it annoys me the Berhalter is always wearing some dumb looking skin tight t-shirt.

It is but I couldn't find it there. I watched it through Hulu
Yeah I could not find it. Even had the wife helping me —since she is of the sex that is better at finding things — still it was nothing, nathan, nada. :(

GGG should also call in 30 players next camp. If there's not really a limit, the club teams will be happier knowing there's more potential for rotation.

Richards, Hoppe, Cannon, maybe Miazga, de la Torre, Arriola, Gioacchini. All guys I think deserve a call-up to camp. Might as well call in a lot. Yunus Musah too if he's healthy.

paramount does a poor job of loading up the live games... sometimes its a direct link . sometimes not. it was under live schedule for me. I think its also different on devices.. the app is awful for soccer games.

Before the end of the year Pepi will be the number 9.

He made lots of good runs today, good touches in the box. Over the first 60 minutes, I would have given him a "6" rating; in the last 30 minutes I would rate him an 8 or even a 9.

Pulisic needs to stop going 1 v 3... take the ing passing lane

Considering how we haven't scored goals without him recently, I have no problem with him forcing the issue. He created several legit chances for teammates, I thought.

Tyler Adams with a master class in the second half as well. Shocker what happens when you don’t force him to play RWB.

To me, what I saw in this game was that Kellyn Acosta and Antonee Robinson make me pretty comfortable with them on the left side of our defense, at least against CONCACAF competition.

I'm also pretty comfortable with Tyler Adams and Miles Robinson on the right side of our defense.

John Brooks was awful, and was out of position several times in the game, not just on the goal (which he was directly responsible for ...). He pushed way too high in the middle of the 3, and rightfully got the hook. He did not run back on defense several times as well. I wonder if he has an injury, or if he's just gassed. He only played the last 2 games out of 3, though.

Tyler Adams is quite a player. My "Man of the Match", notwithstanding all the fireworks from Pepi late in the game.

I couldn't watch the El Salvadore game. I kinda watched it by watching a YouTube watchalong... Tactical Manager's channel I think? I don't have CBS Sports (unless I double my cable bill, apparently) and I don't have Paramount + b/c sports should never be viewed on a 4" phone.

The Honduras games was on Telemundo. I DO get that channel on my FIOS. Sure, it was in Spanish but I could understand most of what they were saying.

to steal from SWC... the downside: Greggers is gonna be the HC in spite of his moronic decisions

Hey, three decisive substitutions at halftime that entirely made the difference. Every one of them had a hand in at least 1 goal. Credit where credit is due - formation change, early subs who made a difference. I give Berhalter a solid 7, nearly an 8.

Sands was not impressive.

Agree with both of those.
Edit: Reggie Cannon is pretty good, too.

One game. But Sargent continues to show that he's not the answer.

Hopefully Chris Richards gets a run of games at Hoffenheim, would love to see him next to Miles Robinson.

I thought McKenzie played pretty well the last few times I've seen him. Walker Zimmerman is a legitimate option. Aaron Long would be a good choice if he can recover from his ACL in time during the qualifying cycle.

"Pepi by name. Pepi by nature."
Wonder how long he was holding onto that one.

Yeah, that was a stale "Dad joke" if ever I heard one.

I really don’t get why Bello was even selected.
Unless Robinson didn’t have the legs for 90.
Which again is why we needed to sub in the Canada Match.

Sargent has disappointed he has talent.

I didn't think he was that bad for portions of the first half. But he also had some lapses.

I thought Aaronson was good, too.
I was shocked to hear that he has scored 5 times in 10 games for USMNT.

Might still win 3-1. Too early for that.

With that said, if they do drop points? They deserve to be raked.

Plenty of time to scratch back and earn the result. With that said, I’ve got to crash. Hope to read some good news in this thread I’m a few hours…

This turned out to be a superb call on your part!

So he finally went to a back 3 when he didn’t have Dest or McKennie??? This is a masterclass from Gregg.

I have advocated for a back three when you can't trust 2 centerbacks to do the job. But you do that against a team like Portugal or Argentina, not freaking Honduras, even if it is on the road. Defense doesn't win you this game; you need goals.
