2021 USMNT Thread

If we don’t get a minimum of 6 points in these 3 games it’s a failure.
No ifs ands or buts about it.
USA soccer should win these 2 home matches.
At Panama is hard not expecting a result there but 6 points in these 3 games.
I am expecting low energy Gregg’s team to win 1-0 at home both matches and then 2-0 loss at Panama.

He's been on the bench for Wolfsburg. He's definitely not feeling right. His form the last month hasn't been great. Expecting Miles Robinson and hopefully Chris Richards to start.
Hopefully he is Wally pipped

Panama seem to have a few good wingers. I expect they'll try to isolate the US 1v1 out wide. That's a game I would rather see Yedlin than Dest at RB.

McKenzie was pretty good, and we're going to need to play at least a third guy, like Walker Zimmerman, so they each only play 2 games.

fivethirtyeight predicts 6.04 points for this window. So 6 points would be underachieving.

6 points minimums or goodbye Gregg.

I'm hoping he understands and the team understands what is at stake and the pressure and urgency needed.

Completely agree needs to be two wins at home. Especially to avenge the last home CR match.

That's silly. Say they "only" win 1 and get 2 draws - that's 5 points.
Nobody is firing him for that.

We have no business not beating Costa Rica and Jamaica at home.
None.

If we drop anymore home points to anyone but Mexico it’s a failure.

Yeah, that's great and all to have expectations.

But the reality is that our best players are all age 18-22 or so, and haven't done this before; haven't played in any of these crappy little countries on their rutted cow patches, with people throwing bottles of piss at them during games, with crooked refs in charge.

That has to be experienced, and hiccups do occur along the way. Mexico is not at its finest right now, nor is Costa Rica. They have, and will have, slip ups, too.

Because of MLS, CONCACAF is getting closer and closer to parity of talent among teams.

5 point is not enough.
Costa Rica is typically good they are down this cycle. Beyond Joel Campbell and keeper from PSG we will have the clear majority of the better roster and at home it should be a win.
Same for Jamaica.
Eventually results matter.

Gregg Berhalter isn’t getting any benefit of the doubt from me.

Well, the simple fact is he won't be fired if he gets 5 points instead of 6 in October.

Sorry, but you should forget that. He'd have to get 1 or 2 points now and in November, and then we would be on the ropes with only 6 games left, and someone would have to come in for him.

But short of that, they have invested a ton of time in this guy. You remember that they waited for him, right? They're not throwing him out as quickly as you want.

Who would you pick? Because you don't fire a guy without having another one lined up for the job.

The backup should be Bob Bradley as caretaker through the WC. Then idk.

Bob Bradley or Jessie Marsch after the domestic league is over in Europe.

Gregg is not a national team manager. He had a lot of support within USSF that is gone that got him the job.

the way the season is going we win the away game and tie the home games..

Westin McKennie is starting on Thursday.
So we obviously aren’t punishing him.

Well, we did send him home and he missed 2 games last time, along with the public shaming. So, I wouldn't say they didn't punish him. They also took away his captain's armband.

Bigger picture for me is he needs a mentor and to get his head on straight. Not great form with Juventus right now either. Allegri is constantly on him. Has had a few quarantine mishaps. He's a young player still but eventually teams won't take the chance if you show you don't follow rules.

Rumors are he will be sold to West Ham in January. Playing for David Moyes would be great for him. Moyes' teams are usually fundamentally very solid, if a bit uninspired offensively.

I do think West Ham is probably a better fit for him club wise and league wise vs Italy. Though breaking into the Soucek-Rice duo would be very tough.
