First and last time I'll say this. Hope Yankee fans on this board thread or reading this see this and do the same. I'm going to hold Hal Steinbrenner because its him Cashman can only do and spend under Hal. Hold Hal accountable to keep with the promise his father made to Yankee fans and the people of NY to give us the best team year in and year out because thats what we deserved the best. If he does hold up to that promise we need to hold him accountable voicing on sports talk radio tv fan forums message boards and making it known at games. We deserve better then what he is putting out there. Hal you are on the clock.
There’s this new thing called Twitter, too!

I've long thought it's been time for the Yankees to let Gardner go and have room for other players to shine.

I'm not opposed to Gardner on the Yankees this season if it's a situation where he stays in shape as an unofficial "in case of emergency break glass" kind of player they can bring in if guys ahead of him on the roster get injured/traded.
Yes, unfortunately I believe that Boone can not be trusted to use him as a situational and depth player. What will happen is over playing him and thus taking away meaningful reps from guys like Frazier and other younger developing talent

i dont think thats true.

Booney had no problem playing Urshela & Tachman, Frazier just carried a lot of baggage back then.

both Booney and Red Thunder will be fine and id rather have Gardy on the roster as the 26th man.

in case all have forgotten, I am a HUGE Red Thunder fan and if i felt Gardy would get in Frazier's way, id want him gone.

Gardy can only get in the way, and not just regarding Frazier. Great run and fine career, but time to move on.

I don't disagree. I also wonder if an all-out player like Gardner would settle for being a part time player in a bit role. I just don't think that's who he is, especially at his age.

for who, Jack Bruce?

the role is for a Vet, id rather it be a Yankee vet to start.

if not, then he could go the way of 2 of my other favorite Yankees...Lou PIniella and Bobby Murcer.

retire midseason to either coach, the booth or upstairs.

i think he can still be that 'all-out player...who would settle for being a part time player in a bit role'.

81 games is not a lot, but its still every other day. you can be 'all-out' like that, especially at 37.

That's what he was last season and he wasn't very good, save for a strong last 10 games of the regular season, which somehow bought him an everyday role in the postseason.

I wish you were right because I too would prefer a yankee as part time veteran depth rather than an outsider.

Unfortunately Boone literally just got done giving Gardy 2x the at bats as Red Thunder in the very last playoff series we played.

Ultimately Boone can not be trusted not to use his comfortable, cozy (but worn out) security blanket appropriately

Well, it's a nice problem to have, anyway. It'll be interesting to see if Bruce even makes the roster. Seems he and Gardy, both left-batting outfielders, are an insurance policy for the other. That said, I don't see them both starting the same game very often. If they do, it's because there are bigger problems: HIcks, Judge and Stanton have all missed considerable time with injuries these past few seasons.

Hey - 37 isn't old. Gardner is 6 years younger than Tom Brady (and 4 years younger than Ed Asner was during the first few seasons of the MTM Show)
