Take the L. Move on. Bills weren’t winning that game anyway. There are more important things

I have no issue taking the loss because of the extenuating circumstances but I have a tough time stating that the Bills weren't going to win anyway. It was 7-3 in the first quarter and both teams had the ball once with Cinci on their 2nd possession.

And the Bills would get the ball to start the 2nd half

I think the criticism is about the 're-start' that it appears that the teams shut down. Buck mentioned 4 times, that the teams were going to warm up for 5 minutes, and then re-start the game. Cameras showed Burrow throwing, and Diggs rallying the troops.

Then, McDermott and Taylor were shown talking on the sideline, after which McDermott motioned/pointed to the locker room. If there was no 5-minute re-start, what were McDermott and Taylor talking about?

Troy Vincent (same guy who broke a teammate's leg during a non-contact drill, to prove a point) carrying water for the NFL is pathetic.
To me it seems like they were following protocol. Meanwhile the coaches were working out an inevitable postponement, as the NFL and NFLPA were discussing what to do as well.

I think there were a lot of variables in the air and all things considered what needed to be done to give this kid the best chance of survival was done, then the game situation was figured our shortly after

JMO, but the moment Hamlin had to be resuscitated on the field, with players and coaches crying, the game should have been cancelled.

Ya but it's never 17-14. Always 3-4 FGs each.

Because the defense improves when the offense enters the red zone, if for no other reason than the size of the playing field reduces with every positive play

Remember Goodell did not cancel any games during Covid. They will play this even if it screws either team.
I have no idea but I would guess they don't play the game and just call it a tie. That will favor some teams over others but the alternatives are even less palatable.

It would hand KC the one seed. Oye.

Understood though there was probably a 50/50 shot that was going to happen anyway. There is no way they move the playoffs back and I don't think they're going to make the teams play this week and then on Sunday, too.

I’ll catch flack from the Bills fans here, but I think they were about to be boat raced last night anyway. The defense is beat up and the Bengals have too many weapons. Those receivers were getting wide open. I’d still rather see it played out on the field though. And handing this to KC is going to make a lot of fans grumble.

Obviously I hope Hamlin is ok. I can’t imagine how they even play this weekend against the Pats.

We all want Hamlin to be okay, for his and his family's sake.

You could easily be right about the game. I dropped the Bills D in my fantasy playoff and went with JAX instead, keeping in mind of course they played Houston.

I suspect the team will handle it the same way as when the death of a student occurs in a school (I've been through a couple). They bring in counsellors, they talk about the process of grief, anger, acceptance and moving on. The players will be encouraged softly to heal themselves and each other, compartmentalize the tasks ahead, and they'll dedicate the rest of the season to Hamlin. I'm not trying to be sarcastic or disrespectful, that's just how these things work. It's like what Robert Frost once said, “In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It goes on.”

The NFL can add an extra week to the season (they almost did during the COVID season)

I would guess they could push the playoffs 1 week and have the break before the Super Bowl be 1 week instead of 2

if your reg business had 100s of millions of dollars on a contract decision and someone dies do you just say skip it?

its a game and its business.

Im fine with the decision to cancel the game but its still a decision thats a big deal to thousands of other people. not playing it also effects seeding and playoffs and drafts that could change things 5-10 yrs down the road for teams..
I think very few, if any, employees of regular business are as close-knit as athletes. I would think that this is more emotionally impactful to more people than in “normal” business. (Could be wrong.)
IMO, no sponsors will (publicly) be looking to get back money for lost ads, etc. Bad PR if they did.
We are also in a very different era for this stuff than even 10 years ago.

Unlikely. It's been pretty typical recently for Buffalo to allow some long drives early on, but they really buckle down in 2nd halves. D had been dinged all year. Bengals are tough and totally could have won it, but boat raced? Nope. Team is too good for that.

I think they would have put up some points for sure, but I didn't think the defense had much of a chance the way they were playing the first two drives. White was getting cooked left and right and the Bengals have an average at best oline and they were getting zero pass rush.

You will just never know. The bills moved the ball down the field as well and Josh only went 3 for 6 on the first drive. At the end of the day it was 7-3 in the 1st quarter. Bengals were moving on the 2nd possession, but you just never know. Too much game left to play.

I think they will just declare a no contest and let the chips fall where they may and again I am fine with whatever don't care much on that end but tough to draw a conclusion on a game 1/2 way through the 1st quarter with 2 good teams and 2 great QB's is going to go.

I highly doubt anyone thought the Bengals would be a Pats fumble away from losing the week before up 22-0 at one point. And again it was 7-3 in the 1st quarter

All true. I expected a tough start though. And again, that is not uncommon recently. Who the hell thought NE had a chance to win that game against them after the first half?

That's fair. I think Buffalo is a damn good team. I think the injury bug is hitting them at a really bad time.

It's not College. The result of 80% of nfl games would be different if you just extrapolated "the way it's going" thru 1.3 drives. Much less a team that's favored in literally every game.

I assume the NFL has some kind of "no contest" determination for something like this, which would be functionally a tie in the standings.

Pushing the playoffs back is basically giving every other team "bye" weeks except Buffalo and Cincy, they may be better off with a "no contest" determination.

Bills have definitely been a 2nd half team (save the 3rd quarter against Miami) these past 6 weeks - on both sides of the ball. Impossible to say what would have happened last night, but IMO, very premature to count them out halfway through the first quarter.

Honestly going into last night the only player the Bills were missing was Benford at CB. Yeah they won't have Von but a lot of teams have lost a key player for the season at this point. Losing Taron early was a huge blow, but the Bills were pretty healthy compared to the month prior.

If Josh doesn't lead Cole too much it's prolly a 7-7 game.

Frazier was trying to blitz Burrow early with predictably bad results. I think the defense would've settled in eventually, with rushing just 3 or 4.
