I just hope we get someone across the line that is competent.

We were "targeting" Ballard, as well... and we know how that went.
Slim pickings for grad student centers. Maybe it's Nicholas Kratholm (Niagara) or Eduardo Lane (San Jose State). A stud center isn't coming for a backup role. There's a handful of available PFs who could play center, but I read, also posted by dasher, that they aren't contacting any forwards to keep Benny and the freshman happy.

Yeah, my concern was that I didn't hear/read anything about other contacts after Ballard "shocked" us. We definitely need a transfer big who can hold it down for 10 minutes per game.

Nicholas Kratholm makes sense. Grad center from Niagara, a local mid-major. Would probably be happy to be a backup at an ACC school. Valedictorian of Niagara with a degree in biotech. Obviously academics are important to him so maybe he'll want to go to the ivy league or other elite academic school for a master's that would help him post-basketball. Not sure what SU's grad options look like as I went to Siena -- however based on a quick online search it appears SU has a biotech masters. He also plays forward, but probably wouldn't command the start like other transfers would, so maybe he'd be a good option who wouldn't upset Benny and who could slide over to the 4 if necessary.

Alleyne is a decent player but UConns backcourt still is gonna be very mediocre.

I'll answer for him. I have been saying because I have been told by people that know, that we are not seeking forward help in the portal. And as further proof, we haven't seen our name mentioned with any forwards in the portal, have we? Jb is happy to go with what we have. Either he is playing chess while the rest of us are playing checkers, or he is really missing the boat.
My guess is that promises/representations were made to the incoming freshman about available minutes and/or they believe they are in line for a stud SF next year and don't want to muddy the waters and/or there is a Marek situation brewing (least likely).

freshmen

And if I hear, well these forwards aren't ready I will go nuts. We could have told you that back in April coach.
Just like everyone was screaming last spring and summer (after QG left) that the roster JB compiled didn’t have enough athleticism and would be really bad on defense. A lot people on here saw it coming. Ugh.

why cant they go the international route? worked with edwards

those players are more likley to stick around too, imo

Is the door still open for Frank? Don't see that he signed yet so maybe a JBA repeat.

he looked happy as a peach in his georgia uniform...doubt theres interest there.

i dont think he wants a limited, prescribed role (and one with limited minutes at that)

its all kinda backwards if you think about it...the open spot on the team can only be for a player who isnt good enough to be able to do more...

instead of just going for best available and fit the system around that ...its find a limited option that fits the limited role available in the system...

hence, the losing record.

the best teams just get the best talent and work it out from there...not find players that fit a rigid system (maybe)

One change would fix a lot of problems—freshmen transfers have to sit out a year. Might be better for freshmen kids too because a lot have unrealistic expectations and transfer when they shouldn’t. But the NCAA screwed things up so badly it probably wouldn’t survive in court.

Yeah should be coaching change or family emergency only for a frosh.

It would never survive a challenge, but why should a frosh not be able to take advantage of the rule? And even so, everyone will just have a family emergency

You are right but it may be becoming more of a moot point for many schools who as result will increasingly avoid recruiting freshman over using the transfer portal.

Wonder if this was suppose to be Frank's spot...

It looks like they still have 5 spots open on their roster.

I don't see a single center on the roster and only 1 power forward.

Georgia would be a great choice if the only thing Frankie wants is playing time.

Maybe not such a great choice if he wants to play on a winner and have strong crowd support.
