2022 Yankees Season

MLB and the Hall of Fame are separate entities.
That's correct but MLB can make those players "eligible" and then there is no stopping the HOF voters at that point.

Bonds is eligible
As is Clemens, "wink, wink". But actually, I believe, their ten years is up. Except for the writers who excluded them, I have a hard time believing that any "normal" fan doesn't think what they did was any worse than what a least 51% of the players were doing including Big Papi. Why would MLB perpetuate the myth that only a couple guys were cheating and give a free pass to others. Meanwhile, the owners all got richy rich.

I'm not a big fan of Ortiz being in.

I don’t think the average “sports fan” has any clue that we are in a significantly offensively suppressed era and the straight numbers players are putting up offensively have to be normalized to the era . Just look at what an OPS+ of 100 translates to statistically in 2022 vs 2019. It’s a massive difference. All this to say, judges year has been incredible. And as I have stated before , I hate the Yankees and am not a fan

Yeah, Judge finished with a 207 wRC+. League average in any season is 100. I have to go back to look, but I believe the only players to finish seasons with better wRC+ are Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, and Rogers Hornsby.

Looking back at Bonds, it’s amazing how much better he was than everyone even in the steroid era.

What a great case against expansion! The theoretical replacement player must really suck.

Please God give Nasty Nestor the Game 1 start. Cole can go cry if he has a problem with it.

The fact that players like Hicks and Gallo are considered a net benefit to a team.
WAR is a funny statistic in some ways

The "R" is meant to be the person who would bring up from the minors. It is very difficult to achieve a negative WAR. For example, if you look at the A's (over 100 losses), their lineup still had 2.4 WAR as a team

It's saying even a crappy team like the A's are still better than the AAA team

It doesn't feel right, but that's the way it is calculated

EDIT - I like OPS+ as a comparison, since it is against your peers in the majors

If anyone is interested in getting into the weeds, here is a good explanation for why replacement level is used instead of league average:

Replacement Level

Just a tiny excerpt:

Does it really matter if you compare Andrew McCutchen and Mike Trout to the average player or a replacement one? If you only care about which one is better, not really. You’ll be able to work with their stat lines. But if you want a better handle on most of the league, a baseline that incorporates performance and playing time is vital. You can’t do that with average as your baseline. And it’s also important because we’re talking about the true bottom of the MLB talent pool.

It’s a fairly easily concept to see in practice. You can identify replacement type players without much effort. It gets trickier when you’re trying to actually parse out the specific calculation. So we can leave it at that. If your entire team gets hurt, you don’t get to use an army of average players or an army of players who would literally hit .000. Replacement level is the bookend and having a baseline at the bottom is much better for determining a player’s importance than having one in the middle. And while this discussion has been mostly theoretically, there is evidence that it lines up well with reality

What is it good for? Absolutely nothin'.

It’s not a 3 game series, is it?!

Could be if someone wins the first 3. But the ad shows three games at Yankee Stadium with Game 5, the 3rd “home” game marked as ** if necessary

The Yankees aren’t trying to sell you tickets to the games in Cleveland. (Can we still call it Cleveland?).
