2023 Coaching Carousel

I would never leave Penn State for Georgetown. Yes they have the history but they have no fanbase and no budget to keep assistants, to recruit, and to pay your salary.

He can make Penn State into Iowa. At Georgetown he can turn them into Providence. Neither is great but you make more money at Iowa.

Whitesell's original contract, which The News also obtained through a FOIL request, ran through April 5, 2024. Whitesell currently earns an annual base salary of $300,000, and annual additional compensation of $100,000.

Whitesell’s contract extension includes an agreement that the school would owe him $600,000 if he is terminated by UB before April 5, 2022, and that buyout would drop by $100,000 in each of the following years, until the expiration date of the contract.
He was about as uninspiring a hire as could be.

Buddy of mine, who is on the University Foundation BoT, said that he’s heard chatter about Langel…..and GMac.

Leveraging a raise?

Providence has something good going. The arena is tough to play in. If he goes to Georgetown he’s going to think he’s running a practice.

Has to be or maybe just one of those if they are willing to write a blank check...

Buffalo fires men's basketball coach Jim Whitesell after 4 seasons

Jim Whitesell is out as the University at Buffalo men's basketball coach after his first losing season in four years on the job, the school announced Saturday.
"We felt it was necessary to make a change in leadership of our men's basketball program," athletic director Mark Alnutt said in a statement.
Whitesell was under contract through the 2024-25 season and is due to receive a $500,000 buyout under terms of his deal for being fired before April 5.
The move comes two days after the sixth-seeded Bulls (15-17) were routed 101-77 by third-seeded Akron in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-American Conference tournament. It marked the Bulls' third quarterfinal loss under Whitesell.
He finished with a 70-49 record at Buffalo and led the team to one postseason appearance, a 2021 NIT berth, which ended with a first-round loss to Colorado State.
The lack of postseason success coupled with a drop-off in recruiting were considered disappointments for a school that had established itself as a MAC power. It made a combined four NCAA tournament appearances -- including the program's first -- from 2014 to 2019 under Bobby Hurley and Nate Oats.
