2023 Fall Ball

Good showing by the team that played against Providence. Hiltz and Stevens led the scoring with about 5 each. Rhoa and Deere both had 2 goals. Defense was solid. Figueiras, Dwan and Beck started and played well together. Dmids - Rice and Spallina were solid. Believe final was 15 to 5.

Thanks for the update, greatly appreciated. Curious to how Joey, Thomson, the Occ transfer, English and Mule do in the other game.

Glad to hear Hiltz is healthy and returned. He seemed a little off last season, still recovering from the shoulder issue. Was worried when I heard he wasn’t practicing this fall again.

Yeah felt like he didn't have his full confidence last season to play his game. Maybe mentally he wasn't fully recovered from his injury which happens sometimes. Hopefully he has a huge yr.

Thanks for the write up.

The Cavaliers reached 17 goals without two-thirds of their expected starting attack. In their stead, redshirt sophomore Thomas Mencke, starting in the lefty spot, scored six goals. Senior Jack Boyden, playing primarily on the right, also scored six goals. The third starter, freshman McCabe Millon, finished with one assist.

Redshirt senior Connor Shellenberger and senior Payton Cormier, both expected to start on attack, were held out on Sunday. Tiffany says both are set to be back for the season opener in February. Tiffany added he was impressed by Boyden, a transfer from Division III Tufts. “He has played on the biggest stages,” Tiffany says. “His ability with the odd-man rush and in transition really stands out.” Million kept the offense moving, though he did not accumulate large scoring totals for himself.

Some of the poles are using a Gait proto-type head that more closely resembles the original Gait D.

Rosa is also using something different.

Breakdown of who played against who on Saturday, based on the photos from Rich Barns.

Against Providence
Attack: Erlbeck, Thomson, Hiltz
Midfield 1: Rhoa, Stevens, Birtwistle
Midfield 2: Cordes, Borges, White
F/O: Richiusa
SSDM: Rice, Titus, LeVine
LSM: Wright, Drago
Defense: Dwan, Figueiras, Beck
Goalie: Ippoliti

Against UMass
Attack: Joey Spallina, Deere, Mule
Midfield 1: Leo, English, Thomson
Midfield 2: McCarthy, Hottle, Tenaglia
F/O: Gibbs?
SSDM: Rosa, Kempney, Jake Spallina
LSM: Olexo, Sageder, Page
Defense: Kol, Caccamo, Kuczynki
Goalie: McCool

Notes – Gibbs is a guess based on observations from other posters. I guessed on who played attack vs midfield and LSM vs close defense. It does look like Thomson played attack vs Providence and midfield against UMass, and it looks like he was the only guy to play both games (based on pictures at least). It looks like Page played some with a long stick and some with a shorty against UMass.

If I had to guess it looks like Ippoliti is either second or third string, jumping a few veteran goalies. I have to imagine more guys played than listed above, these were just the ones captured on camera – for instance I’ve seen footage of Hunter playing some offense, and obviously Kellogg assists Rhoa in one of the video clips. Looking at midfield pairings, I am wondering if those are the projected groupings, if they were to combine the first lines from each group.
