Seems like a decent trade. I am glad that we held onto prospects.

I didn't catch the martian the last few games. How did he look? (I heard that his defense was abysmal )

I always liked Anthony Rizzo. I'm sorry his star faded in NYY due to age and injuries. Just like how we lost another player I quite liked, DJ Lemahieu. Father time remains undefeated.

I'm encouraged with Bellinger, but not so much about this:

Naylor always looks like he's been on the Jabba The Hutt diet and sleeping under bridges.

I suppose its OK to get Bellinger. I guess the Yanks feel they have no good leads on hitters in FA or they are afraid of term. Bellinger's $25m contract is a bit high based on what he has done the past 5 years.

The main reason yankees got Bellinger for so cheap is that he has an overpaid contract (although its only one year)... never a good thing for a player's trade value when they decide to take their player option instead of opting out.

A lot of people were concerned that his 2023 numbers his balls in play, and hard hit ball analytics suggested his numbers were a bit lucky in 2023.. It sort of played out in 2024 when he regressed from OPS of .881 to .751 and his bWAR went down from 4.4 to 2.2.

If he does what he did in 2023, you come out as fairly good value for $25M.
If he does what he did in 2022 and 2024 you come up short.
And if he does what he did in 2021 he will be the most hated player in New York.

Yes he was the MVP in 2019, but its now been 5 full seasons where he never approached that, and was only an above average starter in one year since (2023)

Neither Cruz or Jackson appear to be any good? (I haven't watched them). Not that Trevino was a superstar by any means, but I'm not sure that I see much upside to this trade? Cost savings?

Cruz is a BP upgrade...

Austin Wells is now the starting C, and Trevino is in the last year of his contract. Yanks have plenty of catching depth.

Trevino became a liability when there were base runners on.Hasn’t been the same since he broke his wrist.

Cruz had an era of close to 5. What am I missing? (I am admittedly not a new school analytics guy)
