2024 bowl projections thread

Good part about the Miami game is we are playing with house money.

We lose, it’s not the end of the world.

We win and we did something awesome.

Miami has EVERYTHING to lose as their trip to the ACC Championship is riding on it.

Let’s go out and shock the world
Miami may also overlook Cuse a bit. They tend to have that holier than thou mentality a bit. Not sure a lot of those guys know what atmosphere they are entering.

If Kyle beats Miami you don't want him to play in a bowl anyway and want to prep Jakari and Johnson Jr for Tennessee. Doesn't the game not count against redshirt status as well?
4 games without burning RS

Its the same at every school sadly. Guys just want to leave, prepare for whatever post college dreams they have and a bowl game just doesnt move the needle

I wish people who are 25-30 years old could have grown up when i did (70’s and 80’s). College athletics were just better. Off the charts excitement literally every day. Now its just a free agency contest. Hard to buy in as a fan. (anywhere not specifically here).

Now it’s literally a shell of itself and as an almost old timer i just accept whatever happens and dont get super high or low anymore. If we win im beyond thrilled. If we get picked off and struggle it doesnt bother me like it used too.
So true Marsh. Everyone played in the bowl games back in the day. Did people get hurt? I’m sure a few did, but it’s a chance they took to showcase themselves one last time. I get the risk and do not blame a kid for skipping these days but we have seen a time when kids played and it just sucks knowing that it’s not a reflection of the team that earned that bowl..,, of course earning a bowl also hasnt been much of a task the last 20 yrs either.

Agree...

I'm a mainly 80's early 90's myself, but it's the same thing... No cell phones, barely Internet, The Atari 2600 and Star Wars were the bomb. People cared to work/perform. I don't blame anyone today for not wanting to get hurt either but it has come so far with protective gear and things at the same time. I believe a lot have loyalty and teamwork more today in some ways. But you gotta do the best for yourself. I think the youth of today are doing better at making better decisions in this.

There is no way they overlook us. And with no students, thanksgiving weekend how much better will it be than Stanford? They had no problem coming in here.

Nothing personal towards you but I’ve heard this idea proposed a few times in the past on here and I just think it’s the worst idea ever. You completely eliminate all the psychological connection between the regular season and the bowl game and it becomes emotionally meaningless. Bowl games are meant to be played around the holidays a few weeks after the season.
They are not “meant to be played” anytime. They have been traditionally played during those times.
That is like saying FB is meant to be played outdoors. I am sure, all things such as costs, etc, being equal, indoor FB stadiums would have been the standard, had the technology been available in the early days.
Provides a much cleaner game.

They could. For a lot of Miami players they might not know just how loud it can get in Syracuse. Yes no students but it’ll be better atmosphere than Stanford. It is probably the toughest venue in terms of noise they will play in this year… don’t sell ourselves short when the dome rocks it rocks.

I posted this in the game thread yesterday. The Tropical bowl is an all star bowl game.

Trust me. They wont be surprised. If we win its because we just played better and excecuted.

So you’re going to use our worst home performance as your litmus. I know how dome crowds are , the bigger the name the better the atmosphere, unless they run away from us early it will be rocking . Looking at TM it will be a much larger crowd this week as well.

Is there a process where players can get NFL feedback before finally deciding to stay or go. (Not saying any of the expected guys should stay. )

There is a solution to this. Expand the playoffs and use the bowl games as the 1st round. IMO, all top 25 teams should get into the playoffs. The P4 conference winners still get the bye to the 2nd round which consistent of the big 4 bowls (Orange- ACC winner, Rose - B10 winner, Sugar SEC, Fiesta B12). The first round you use for the next tier bowls (Gator, Outback, Citrus, Holiday, Alamo ,etc). That’s the only way to bring some life/meaning back to the bowl games and prevent the opting out.

I went to our last Gator Bowl appearance in 1997 when Donovan completely smoked Clemson. Only been to 2 bowls in my life but I would try to make that one if McCord and company play.
A win in a top tier bowl like that would do so much for our program.
