2024 bowl projections thread

In the old day the money went to the teams. Now its done by most conferences.

Still some talk I would think but in a more structured way to more likely make sure the top teams in a conf don't get left out.

How many 6-6 teams didnt make it this year?

I believe there were just enough bowl slots to accommodate every eligible team.

The Holiday Bowl is a great event and is probably the most prestigious bowl we've been accepted to since the Orange Bowl McNabb's senior year.

I'm personally a little bummed we didn't make the Gator because I was 100% planning on going. I just can't get to San Diego two days after Christmas.

You're not happy with giving the other team possession on the 25 yard line every time? You want to keep the guy who kicks short.

Besides, Kennedy is a walk-on.

But since rosters are being expanded to 105, everyone gets a scholarship anyways.
I just don't think Denaburg is consistent enough to keep on roster unless we have enough opens spots to use on another kicker. They are either gonna find a kicker in the portal or give Kennedy a scholarship if they think he's the best guy moving forward.

It was prestigious. Not so much currently.

It's tie-in to the Pac10 means it's now actually tied-in to the Pac2 and we are flying 5K miles to play the unranked team that won the 2-team conference.

We got the "major" bowl nobody wanted.

Lucky us.

Spin it however you want, but that's my spin. At least it's not the Pinstripe Bowl. Bah humbug.

I'm eating all my poptart stock now and going to spend the holiday bowl with some family. :/ Wish it could be closer. Next... my popcorn and icecream maker to get the boot.

Forgot... Going to make my own Mayo from now on... Screw Kraft and Dukes (same company now) And Mircle Whipo for suger lovers.

I would’ve preferred gator versus SEC, but Holiday bowl was something pretty much everyone wanted over pinstripe, Fenway, mayo.

We could be more disappointed. Imagine being Pitt, who thought they were going to the playoffs a month ago , now playing Toledo in Detroit.

we lost the battle against them, but won the war.

That's true... I would have preferred the Gator, but you know the SEC doesn't want an ACC team to beat anyone of them... I've just had enough of the west coast this year... At least I Could have justified a road trip for the Gator or some others. Also agree anything better than pinstrip or fenway again year after year.

No. I didn’t say the concern Syracuse had with accepting the Holiday Bowl bid was with the length of the plane ride. That was your idea.

Going out west is a big deal. It is a lot tougher on the body when you change time zones and the more time zones you change, the worse it is for your body. And the more times you do it over a couple of months, the tougher it is.

But I think SU was more concerned over over saturating the fan base Syracuse has out west. What have we done, played out west once in 20 years and then we are going to ask our fans out there to travel to a distant venue and spend big bucks three different times over the span of less than three months?

Going out west is a great thing for students. Gives them a chance to see a different part of the country, experience different climates and some cultural differences. It is great. But we have done that plenty already this season. If Duke, who had not been out to Cali this year, was amenable to a switch, awesome. Can’t hurt to try. I hope they tried. I suspect that they tried. Especially if we knew the Gator really wanted us.

This is a good problem to have. We want to be in a situation where a couple of really good bowls want us. I am not really upset. I have a lot of respect for the Holiday Bowl. It has a lot of tradition and I am sure they will take care of our players and give them a first class experience. I just really wanted a shot at playing Ole Miss in the Gator. That would have been epic. I think all our players would play in that game and we would have had a giant turnout of fans. Hopefully the players will still all play and hopefully we somehow end up with a great turnout from our fans out west. Maybe some of the people who have already traveled to the west to see us play once or twice this year will be willing to do it again at a time when prices are at their highest.

It just is not ideal.

I really would have preferred to play in our first Holiday Bowl in a season we hadn’t been out west twice already.

Hopefully we get a chance to play a highly ranked SEC team in a bowl game in a warm place again soon. I suspect if Duke played out west and we played in the Gator, the ACC had a lot better chance to get 2 wins in these games.

Life rarely works out perfectly. We had a really good season and are going to play in a really good bowl game in the best climate in the US. Things could be far far worse.
We ain't getting oversaturated. Are you kidding me. You all get to go to every game. This is a huge treat for us. I have yet spoken to one person out west who is not going from it being too many times, but if they are not going it is because of family holiday obligations. We won't have the east coast contingency like we did in Vegas, but west coast will show.

I know you both briefly, but were all about the same not getting thrown into bowl games due to SEC not wanting to actually play the ACC. I think that is the point. Honestly I would be out there, and I'm not as now I have to find something short. I think the east/west thing is a factor of course, but were all for playing and having some good play time too. Not just tossed off because of the SEC bias I've seen especially when people are going to be sitting out.

I was actually shooting for El Paso, as my brother is out there still... Wish it could be different. Still would be a chore. All points taken.

No issue with people being disappointed, but some of this crap... is ... amazing!

The Holiday Bowl has a reputation for fun, high-scoring games. Like a 50 year+ reputation.

It is historically a more prestigious bowl than the Gator. Times may have changed, but that is the general national perception. (evidenced by the fact that it pays more)

People saying 'it's the opponent, it's the opponent', I doubt they'd want to play Michigan at Fenway or Yankee Stadium if that was our option.

The idea that Wildhack had any control over this process, and should be criticized, is ridiculous.

That Kyle and the other potential pro Sr.s would rather play in a physical tussle vs. FL than in another Holiday Bowl shootout - why would that be? What would be the better exhibition of his arm?

This bowl game (outside of the playoffs) is an exhibition game, the start of practice for next season, and an end-of-season reward for the players. I can think of no better place to accomplish these things - regardless of opponent.

Finally - as people have said.. anyone care to make a wager as to whether the Holiday or Gator gets better viewership #'s? If the Gator is SO much more prestigious - why would this be?

You don't have to sell me on the Holiday Bowl. I'm in my 50s and, honestly, it's my favorite bowl because it took Syracuse. Their committee knows football unlike those pikers at the Gator Bowl, LOL.

I'd actually take a game against Michigan in Fenway. I don't really know what an AD does day to day. My #1 priority was for the kids to get a legit warm weather game. Mission accomplished. I wanted Gator but Jax is a crap shoot in early January anyway. Can't wait for the Holiday Bowl now. LGO.

Let's back off the Fenway, K? I'll take Kenmore Square over the filth that are the streets outside the Bronx every single day, The Pinstripe is a miserable experience all around.
Don't take this the wrong way because I like you a lot as a poster but I disagree with this so much! The Pinstripe is a great bowl to attend and there is tons to do for the players. Christmas in NYC?!

For a 6-7 win team it's an awesome get. It's also considered mid level not low for an ACC tie in.

FreakTalksAboutSU is a Boston guy. So I’d hope he’d have those takes. He’s supposed to hate the Bronx!

What an incredible year for West Coast Cuse fans. Three games in the Pacific time zone. I'm not going to look at every one of our schedules all-time but I'm very confident this is the first time in program history we have played out west three times in a single season.

So VTech and Duke essentially buy their way into their bowls, and yet they get to share in ACC bowl revenue? So we are subsidizing two teams that took potential bowls from us. Seems legit

Tis the season of giving.

Look at it this way - we get to keep more, from a higher-paying bowl.

That's a good thing.

Now, I could have driven to either of the FL bowls, so that's a bad thing. But in the long run, more $$$ for the school is an overall plus. And doesn't school-sponsored NIL start next year? Or am I misremembering that?

Yes it’s been a great year for West Coast fans. About to hit the trifecta out west this year

I've heard people say that but Brent Axe mentioned several times that it's better for our program because the payout is higher. So now I don't know what to believe!

Heard that the ACC arranged Duke's slot in the Gator Bowl.
Their rationale: Duke has not played in a Florida-based bowl game since 1994.
That's it. That was the determining factor.

And these days, the conferences are more powerful than the bowls (by a long shot).
SMH. If this is true, the ACC needs to do better.
Merit should carry the day.

I'm not as down as most on facing Wazzou. I feel for their plight.
I do think a Gator Bowl berth against UF or Ole Miss would have been better for the program and helped the kids get ready for Tennessee in the Kickoff Game in Atlanta next August/Sept.
