2024 MLB Season

Scoring seemed down this year, so I looked at the stats vs the prior year.

In AL
Runs per Game down from 4.55 (2023) to 4.18 (2024), down 8%. The 4.18 is the lowest it has been since 1981 (full year)

OPS down from .729 to .686. The .686 is the lowest it has been since 1976 (full year)

Things are early and with better weather and more games, should creep upwards. But scoring is certainly down this year.

That number was for all the games played in 1981. That was my point.
Not through April 15th, 1981 or 18 or 20 games played into 1981. For the full amount of games played in 1981.

But if we are not going to include 1981 since it was strike shortened (and trust me I am well aware of that given that was my Expos only play-off year that they backed into), then its the lowest scoring year since 1976,

Let's just insinuate a team is cheating because they are fouling off a few more pitches vs a few more games back. (As an aside nobody fouls off more pitches than Bo Bichette when he starts to get zoned in)

BTW Jays scored 14 runs in New York, and 12 in Toronto.

I think Nike needs to get out of unifrom design completely. They are incompetent and should never be allowed to be responsible for the design of any uniform. Even uniforms for medical care personnel, janitors, garbage men, etc.

Their core expertise appears to be exploiting 3rd world nation labor. Not a lot to hang your hat on.

Maybe they should just shut down and burn all their buildings down. That would be a good thing for the world.

And another reason to just use technology to calls ball and strikes. The ability to "pitch frame" shouldn't be an art that we protect in order to easily get the calls right (with no delay). Teams now doing even more things to fool the umps, and some appear dangerous or stupid.

Extremely stupid by the Cards too, IF, IF, the narrative in the tweet below is accurate.

Yanks and O's should be fun to watch all year. O/U 3 more division lead changes
AL Central might send three team to the playoffs
Seattle tops the AL West at only 3 games over .500. Houston gonna bounce back?

Phillies and Braves will both be playing in the post-season
Brewers and Cubs should be there till the end of the season
Dodgers will run away with the NL West but will Arizona or San Diego make a run for a wildcard spot?

Not a Braves fan but Acuna is one of the most talented players in MLB. Hate to see him out for so long in his prime. I assume he might not be back until close to the all star break next year.

Apparently Angel's "retirement" involved a contract buyout.

Given how difficult it is to break down the MLB umpires union, I'm speculating the payment could have been quite large just to get him to go away. In the end Angel got a nice payout for being so bad - but it was probably worth it just to stop the embarrassment.

There are some other equally-bad umpires in MLB. Some have worse ball/strike accuracy ratings. Some have a quicker trigger.

But nobody combined the two quite like Angel. And few were around as long.
