2025-26 NBA

What really gets me riled up are the celebrity endorsers like Jamie Fox and the mannings who have more money than they’ll ever need schilling for these companies .
I have a hunch that many of those spokespeople have racked up massive debts themselves.

I think AD is one of the most underrated players ever. Averaged close to 20 a game in the Olympics ( think he had 30) in the Gold medal game.
His NBA numbers are impressive too. Comparable to anyone offensively.

I view Melo as a taller, better rebounding Adrian Dantley.

Talent is a lot more subjective so fair enough (I disagree but fair. However I do agree with you re: melo vs dantley, nique, etc. ) but as far as actual career accomplishments I don’t see how it’s close.

One guy has two titles, two finals mvps, one regular season mvp, 15 all star games, 6 first time all nba, 5 time second team, 4 time scoring champ.

The other guy has zero titles, no mvps, 10 all star games, zero first team all nba, and 2 second teams, 1 time scoring champ.

The difference is quality of supporting cast, and fit among the players. Put Melo on any of a bunch of teams of his era, and he would have won a ring.

The proof is in his stats - although Durant has missed more games in recent years, his numbers are the same as when he was winning with Golden State. He's not really a different player; he was just on better teams in the past.

I don’t really agree, he’s not the same player he was. He was never a huge driver but he never (like, ever) gets to the rim anymore. (I think someone mentioned this above. It’s all jumpers now)

Yep, he went from around 20-25% of his shots being at the rim in his heyday to around 10% the last couple years (and 6% in his Rockets debut but obviously that is extremely subject to change).

One of my most hypocritical views: I bet on sports all the time, love a trip to the casino. Hate that it's all legal/especially hate that we are constantly bombarded with ads/have the ability to bet at our fingertips.

At minimum IMO, gambling should be treated like cigarettes re: advertisements. And if we went back to just straight up banning it and forcing people to find illegal ways to place bets, I would be totally fine with it. As much as I enjoy partaking, I think it's fairly obvious that it's bad for society.
Not me. That it is open makes it much more likely that bad actors will be exposed. They are watching it more closely and are more able to watch it more closely now that it is out in the open, I don't bet on games like I did when I was younger but have played poker at the casino over a hundred times this year. Love it because you are not betting against the casino but against other players.

I knew it was going to be a disaster from the minute I heard it might be legalized. What really gets me riled up are the celebrity endorsers like Jamie Fox and the mannings who have more money than they’ll ever need schilling for these companies . They know they are just encouraging people to give away their money to the giant corporations because the house always wins in the long run
Yeah, those endorsers are a bit predatory.

When I log into DraftKings and I see promos for the latest barstool parlay it really rubs me the wrong way just knowing the demo for barstool is generally the term early 20s who are gonna be really susceptible to getting hooked in a bad way on gambling.

Younger generation loves all the prop bets/ parlays as well. I mean everyone just loves giving out their picks as well. The biggest sport podcasts seem to all revolve around them as well. It's everywhere you turn

It's why I consume very little of that media, actually. It's awful seeing how much gambling is a part of pregame shows now, even.

Things really went overboard a few seasons ago in college football when analysts straight faced used what they thought the lines would be as a case against Washington being in the playoffs. As if that mattered more than their actual record and on field accomplishments.

The entire “giving out picks” thing is hilarious. The people who are the best at this already gave you their pick. It’s the line. There is no way you are going to do better than them especially factoring in you are paying -110 for a 50/50 bet AND you owe taxes if you win . Thats why such a small percentage of people can consistently make any money.

Mind you this doesn’t stop me from enjoying Barstool Sports Advisors on YouTube but that’s cause Stu Feiner is a complete disaster and is very entertaining

What's the equivalent to Vinny breaking your legs when you get in to deep with your bookie when you're an online gambler?

The app installs a virus on your phone and makes it so you can only receive calls and not make them, and none of your apps work?

I'm saying, what's the protocol here?

Yeah the rozier thing seems pretty concerning so far at least. Billups less so though I also get why it’s not a great look for the league if a coach is tied in with the mob so we’ll see.
They already had a mobbed up referee so I guess mobbed up coach isn't as bad?

Irs so funny too, the parlays are like the worst bet you can make. There’s a reason all the books promote them!!

The streaming wars are out of control. To follow the NBA this season you have to subscribe to ESPN, NBC, Peacock, Amazon Prime, C-SPAN and LexisNexis.
Damn I thought Bloomberg would get that last spot.

Yeah . Much better off just making a bet , taking the winnings .. then make another bet with those winnings . But the immediate gratification of things resolving in one game is gone. Another example of the way psychology works against human bettors

Chet Holmgren has such a punchable face.
Give me Sengun all day.
First time I saw Sengun was in the playoffs. I’ve become a GSW fan due to Steph and Klay, and how they played (front runner, I know). I wondered what, if anything, GSW could give OKC to get that guy to go with Steph. The guy was fantastic

How many rings does Steph have without KD? He was one of the elite offensive players of all time. Houston got him to make shots in the playoffs. Let's see how that plays out.
Also, I love Melo, but there is not one player from their era who would take him over KD.
2 more than KD has without Steph. Steph also owns a 3-1 series comeback against KD. I think 2 things can be true. KD at his peak is better than Curry, but Curry is the better and more influential player all time and I don’t think it’s much of an argument.
