Great start for Alonso and the bullpen amidst waiting on the rotation to get healthy. Very promising returns so far.

Pete is feasting off of having Soto in front of him.

I believe the Mets pitching staff as a whole has an ERA of 1.73 after the first 10 games. They’re only allowed 22 runs period. Pretty amazing.

They’ve gotten almost nothing so far from third base, second base and centerfield and hopefully that changes soon.

But timely hitting and good pitching win a lot of games.

If anyone still happens to get Sports Illustrated, there is a pretty good article in the baseball preview on how the whole Soto/Boras/Cohen negotiations came together.

Pitching continues to be Stellar running neck and neck with the Padres for fewest runs given up. Offense getting enough at the top of the lineup but need the bottom of the lineup to pick things up.

Senga finally looking like an ace with yesterday’s outing. All this with two of the projected rotation out injured as well. It’s early but there is a lot to like out of the gate with lots of room to get better as they get healthier.

3 shutouts already. Did not expect that.

Torrens and Alonso have been great. Vientos appears to finally be waking up. Maybe Baty as well. Maybe. Props to Senger, who did a great job filling in.

Bullpen has been very good. Kranick has been stellar. Peterson and Megill have been solid. Canning has been good. Holmes, who dominated spring training, has struggled some but I think he will be fine/. That is good because Montas and Manaea are a ways away.

I would think we will see Alvarez and McNeil back in the lineup in a week or so. Sanger and Baty probably head down to Syracuse. Mauricio should start playing soon in Syracuse. Depth is coming.

17-7, tied for the best in the majors, another 6 game winning streak, and crickets in here?

I think we owe it to Steve to represent a bit more for the Mets. I don't often post here but will try to do so a bit more. Tom is usually much better at providing analysis.

It has been a nice start to the season. Hard to believe how dominant the pitching has been. Great to see Alonso playing at a high level for an extended period.

Getting a sweep over the Phils today would really be special. Gonna be tough beating Wheeler today but the Phillies have been making him pitch a ton of innings and he might finally be hitting the wall.

Big test for Peterson today.

lindor's early slumps as a Met are seemingly gone -- been on a tear.

I'd love to see Soto truly breakout (that three run homer that wasn't, man that would have been a hell of a first citi homer)

very curious to see what this team looks like post-trade-deadline. Will they add to the pen? Will they move McNeil (angels?) In stearns we trust

Okay, the season got off to a great start. The Mets were the last team to lose two games in a row. That happened a week and a half ago or so against the Twins.

They lost the third game of that series when umpire Hunter Wendelstedt missed an easy call at first base that should have gotten the Mets out of an inning down 2-0. But Hunter phased out and somehow called a Twins runner safe when he was clearly out by a half step.

The Mets couldn’t review the call because they asked for a review earlier and lost that request. They scored 3 runs in the top of the ninth and that should have been enough to win the game but the blown call got the Twins into extra innings and they won in the 10th 4-3.

Hunter continued to act in a fog though and shortly after blowing the call at first base, Tyrone Taylor hit a line drive toward him. He just froze and the ball hit him in the head. He was carried off the field and they finished the game with 3 umps. Hopefully he gets a full work up and is not allowed on the field until he proves he can make simple calls and avoid line drives. He is not fit to be a big league umpire right now.

Anyway, Hunter gave the Twins that win and that gave the Mets two losses in a row.

How would they react? Well, they went back home. They swept the Cardinals in a four game series and have just swept a 3 game series against Philafelphia.

Today was another pitchers duel. Peterson and Wheeler both did well. It was 2-2 late before the Phils got a run in the top of the tenth to go up 3-2.

Pete Alonso doubled home Lindor, who started the inning on second base, to tie things up. And Starling Marte got a weak line drive up the middle to get get hrough the infield to win it 4-3. Another walk off win. It was cool to see Marte and Winter celebrate together. They are splitting the DH position this season. Both are good enough to still be full time players but are happy to play part time roles on a team that has a chance to win the World Series.

The Mets now have the best record in MLB and have a 5 game lead in the NL East. Pretty pretty good. Alvarez and McNeil will join the team in Friday (travel day tomorrow).

It is a good time to be a Met fan right now.

Trying to not get overly excited given we have to avoid more injuries but with more hitting possibly coming soon as well as pitching to go with( - bit longer to wait) it’s hard not to see something special possibly coming together.

mcneil and alvarez return!

Hopefully both are ready for a bounce back year at the place (more of a coming of age for Alvarez). Torrens has been great though holding things down and Acuna strong too so just nice having real depth.

What a wild last 3 games. Turn around the awful collapse vs the Nats.. sadly lose a key bullpen piece for a while then an offensive explosion the last two games. All that with Soto offering more protection than big numbers. Bodes very well how things are going so far without Soto starting to do more damage.

The Mets responded well after 2 bad losses to the Nats. Tyrone Taylor is struggling hitting some but has been great defensively in CF. Acura has 7 SBs is hitting .300 and fielding at a gold glove level at 2B.

Lindor is having a monster year but Pete continues on the best streak of great play in his career.

21-9 and a .700 winning percentage is nice.

They face Corbin Burnes tonight and will go with a variety of pitchers to try and get through the game tonight. A lefty named Waddell is being called up to pitch most of the innings. He has done well in Syracuse so far and I think the Mets would be thrilled if he can give them 3 decent innings.

If you like runs, tonight might be a game you will enjoy.

By the start of May last year, the Mets thread was on page 10. We’re not even on a second page yet.

That really highlights the impact SWC75 had - I came to check out this thread this evening looking for some in depth analysis without thinking about it, and it hit me like a ton of bricks that he’s gone when there were no such posts.

So true.

I’ve avoided this thread specifically because of that.

To kick start the convo… Mets are doing great but it’s time to sunset Nimmo and McNeil. Acuna deserves to play everyday at 2nd. Not sure what to do in outfield, but Nimmo is not an every day player any more and his contract is going to look worse and worse. Never trust a dude named Brodie who also happened to be the agent of the player to negotiate contracts. Lesson as always is that the Wilpons suck… I’m shocked they built citi on their dime.

My others concern is how long the pitching can hold up… Megill is revering to his mean and there is no proven stopper on the team.

Still lots of fun and if they ever hit their averages with RISP they will finish above .600

Nimmo reading the board today lol.

No doubt Nimmo’s contract is going to look worse over time. I’d still give him until a week into June to see if he can get out of his slow start - 7HR isn’t bad but his average is the bigger issue.

I’d be good with starting Acuna at 2nd; McNeil’s problem is there’s a guy better than him already on the team.

I have no idea what to do with Baty/Vientos.

Some disjointed thoughts…

Agree the second base job is Acuna’s, probably for at least a decade. He can hit, his speed brings a new dimension to the team and he will win gold gloves playing 2B.

Lindor has elevated his game to another level. I think he is going to finish in the top 2 or 3 in MVP voting again. Very complete player and probably the best clutch hitter on the team.

Regarding Vientos and Baty, I hope both keep getting a lot of playing time and at bats. You want young guys who can hit for power in your lineup. It makes it easier to afford big buck players like Soto and Lindor. With Winker out for a couple months, both should get a lot of playing time.

Looks like Alvarez has figured out how to hit again. Great to see him going the other way, no longer pull happy.

Gotta stop over using Kranik and get Nunez straightened out. Good to see McLean dominate in his first start for Syracuse. Good to see Tong dominate again for Bingo. Tidwell and Sproat appear to be figuring things out at Syracuse as well. Really liked what I saw from lefty Felipe De La Cruz when he was called up to Syracuse and dominated Scranton. Throws 97 mph and has a nasty slider. He might be our next lefty reliever. Cabrera looks okay in that slot so far. Glad he has some big league experience.

This is a fun team to watch. Props to Griffin Canning for dominating again. What an awesome pickup.

Stearns is good

Mets are good

Baseball is an up and down season but there’s so much to love about this team

I’m good with Jeff McNeil being traded at some point this year. For what, idk. But if Baty and Vientos keep trying to out-do one another that’s only going to elevate both of them. Acuna I’m good with at 2B for as long as he wants to play baseball

McNeils personality just screams odd man out and that’s okay. Hell make an excellent Colorado Rockie
