thats not the rule. he was being hit and the ball went backwards that doesnt make it a backwards pass when he was clearly trying to throw it forwards.
It didn’t help that he really didn’t throw it. He tried to do a two hand push. It’s arguable it would have just gone sideways or slightly backward anyway. The hit to the arm changed the trajectory to clearly backwards.
Really weird play. I think they should have stuck with intentional grounding and Vrabel would have challenged.
