But who did NE face this year? They went 14-3 with two wins over playoff teams - Carolina and Buffalo. Seattle had five in the regular season and beat a team yesterday that was clearly better than anybody NE faced. The QBs NE faced in the playoffs were Stroud and Stidham plus Herbert with no OL. Darnold was lights out yesterday.
Overall SoS is no comparison, NE's schedule is even easier than the metrics say when you look at the incredible opponent injury luck they've faced. I wouldn't say their D is elite but would agree it's probably better than the 9ers mash unit & Rams right now. It's a joke they're here with how Maye has played in the playoffs but I wouldn't rule out a better game from him in the SB, nothing to lose.

I mentioned Darnold was lights out yesterday, but if you told me he implodes in the SB I wouldn't be surprised. There's a bunch of SB champions who had soft schedules. 99 Rams had the 2nd weakest schedule in NFL history. I think Vrabel will have a good game plan on that side of the ball and it will be 3 months since they last allowed a 200 yard passer entering the game. I expect a low scoring game.

Should have kicked it. NE has the best front 7 in football against the run.

Do they? Their run defense was really bad the last half of the season. They gave up 132 yards/game on 4.8 YPA the last 8 games of the regular season, which would put them bottom 5 in the league if that was for an entire season. Of course, their run D has looked great in the playoffs, when they've gotten to play the literal worst offensive line to make the playoffs in NFL history and then two awful weather games against bad quarterbacks where you can just stack the box all day.

Fair enough. I was just putting a little more emphasis on Darnold's performance than he "played well". I thought he was excellent. MacDonald has gotten the better of the two geniuses in his division, going 2-0 against each during the last month. He doesn't get enough credit. I like him to do the same against another widely proclaimed genius, Josh McDaniels.

So this guy is a pro bowl qb

That’s why there is such a vast difference between someone being all pro and a pro bowler

Yup, not even a Pro Bowl anymore; it’s the Pro Bowl Games with a bunch of skills competitions and a flag football game. Hardly the achievement it used to be.
