2025 Preseason Camp Thread

Does anyone know if media is allowed at today’s practice or if Fran is giving a press conference?
Looks like first practice tomorrow and a Fran press conference from the school website (I still don't know how post links correctly here)

Don't know if anyone saw Collins, stonehouse and Buxton on ACC network.

Collins is poised, confident and charismatic. Great representative for SU. Also love that Fran is the reason he chose Cuse. And reading between the lines, sounded like Fran told him he would get another QB if he could and it didn’t shake him. Our QB battle should be intriguing.

Don’t know what Buxtons major is but the guy is smooth. Seems like he was born to be behind the mic.

Majoring in economics in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, per his bio.

Which probably means he's pretty smart [per your observation].

Berry Buxton is a class act. He has graduated with a degree in economics and is currently working on a master degree. He is smart.

He comes from a military family and his younger brother is a DB at San Diego State.

Word is Fran loves this young man and his work ethic.

Buxton and Grant both missed the bowl game last December due to injury and were held out of contact during the spring.

Buxton, Grant and Chestnut are competing for playing time at the two safety positions. I believe all three are seniors.

Praying they all stay healthy.

Amen. Fran has an eye for young men like this. He loves their leadership ability.

The Orange will hit the field for their first practice on Thursday, after completing a variety of entrance meetings and moving into training camp housing since reporting. Checkout Cuse.com Thursday afternoon following practice to hear from Head Coach Fran Brown.

I think it’s more they will be splitting time. I’d want the five best dbs out there. Either the 3rd best corner or 3rd best safety as the nickel. Obvious that that could be situational depending on opponent and coverage vs run support.

Was just checking out the staff page. Seems like it has grown and they've added a lot more as far as Quality Control, Analysts etc.

Excellent sign of continued investment in the program.
SU will be a peer when there are guys in different colored shirts by function and there is one staff member for every two players warming up.

The Clemson crew were kitted like the crew of an aircraft carrier.

The skill sets for the five defensive back positions are slightly different. Boundary corner/Field corner, strong safety/Free safety and Star.

Coach Schaefer handles the safeties. Coach Fran is the lead for the corners. Coach Coyle is responsible for the Star position. All have at least one quality control or analyst assisting them.

I understand Jalil Martin and Ibn McDaniels have been splitting time getting first and second team reps at Star. Corners Delaine and Kerr 1 have been cross training and splitting the third team reps during the summer. Possible to get better coverage guys on the field in dime and dollar packages.

I’ve been told the safeties often work both strong and free but don’t usually get any reps at Star.

Side note: Zach Van Arsdale who has been a student manager the past theee years (Head Manager in 2024) is now in a quality control position with the offense. I believe he spent the last couple of years working with the QB coach.

Congrats Zach!

Fun Fact, I was in a Calc class with Berry Buxton when I was a freshman in Fall 2023, he was a nice guy from what I remember, the better of my 2 in class interactions with football players, the other one was Adam Boeheim telling me to chew gum quieter in economics.
In fairness, there should never be an audible indication that an adult is chewing gum. It’s poor ediquette if there is.

It's a lot better in beautiful CNY. My son started high school football in Florida this week. The heat index is over 100. They stop practice every 30 minutes so the kids can go dip their heads in a giant bucket of ice.
I'm in Jacksonville and just walking to my car from my office is brutal. I don't know how kids are practicing in this heat. I am going to Miami next week for work, I am dreading it.
