2026 Recruiting

I seriously do not no how you could watch last years Duke team and still want to play for Duke. All that experienced senior talent and still an inconsistent hot mess of a team with a stale as hell offense. When will these kids figure it out. We are grabbing our own studs this year so it is a little easier to take, but god damn.

i will be surprised if garcia does not end up at uva, nd, or unc

I figured UVA given their connection to Brunswick, and they seem to be lagging against ND and UNC, just in terms of total commits.

It's simple really, the kids are getting a degree from Duke University and the career networking that goes with it.

Yup, there's so much more to a decision than just the lacrosse (let alone something as granular as a scheme for a midfielder -- Duke is unquestionably a top tier place to play lacrosse on top of all the other benefits).

Clearly Danowski is doing something right because not only does he recruit well, he retains his players too; despite the constant influx of top recruits and top transfers, Charles Balsamo is the only player I can remember in the Danowski tenure who has transferred to another D1 school to play lacrosse.

Think an additional big factor is the the lvy league making less of an impact than in previous years. Those schools offer the same elite degree and career networking, but kids that also want to compete on memorial day weekend seem to be less likely to choose Ivy. Princeton is maybe the only school that is getting consistent solid recruiting classes these last couple years. Cornell Yale and Penn have been inconsistent at best recently. Harvard and Dartmouth are making some moves so far this year, but it has not been a strong start for several of the more prominent Ivys.

Whether they are justified or not, there may be some concerns about how much the Ivy league values lacrosse. The 4 year rule has certainly been more of a crutch in the covid-year era. Someone said there was a rumor coach Posner at Lawrenceville is steering kids away from Ivys. Whatever the reason, this is the second year in a row with the ACC landing a ton of the highly regarded private/prep school guys that in years past may have chosen a Cornell or Yale.

Duke/Dano are clearly elite on the recruiting trail, but I wish the fact they were not able to get it done in recent years, despite class after class loaded with 5 stars and a generational talent in Oneill, gave some of these kids/families pause. All that talent and they were still doing things like losing to UNC without freaking Owen Duffy. Been a long time since there was a shakeup on the staff, and IMO Danowski Jr. has not shown an ability to get the most out of his offensive talent as an OC.

For those familiar with roster projections, what seem to be positions of priority for 2026 that have not yet been addressed? It has seemed to me that SU is frequently lacking /O and SSDM depth- are there targets out there that have not yet gone to Duke, UVA, ND or Notre Dame?

one of duenkel, millon, or garcia is going to have to play midfield or ride the bench. i doubt that was part of lars' sales pitch to garcia but guess it didnt matter...

Foy had us at #7 until Brozek committed to Harvard.

cornell seems to be struggling with recruiting as of late...they have two total top 100 IL players in the last three classes combined and i believe one of them is a legacy...only two commits this class so far and both are 3 stars...they have fallen behind dartmouth even. maybe they are about to make a splash with someone like gilbane or malone but i wouldnt count on it

Would be nice to have more of this. Small victory when these top guys avoid Duke ND and UVA. There was a time not too long ago where more top recruits went Ivy. Did not expect Harvard to be helping us out much, but we will take it. Better to have him at Harvard at attack going then shooting out of the box as a second line middie for ND and totally burning a short stick.

Helps Syracuse's cause that some of the teams above them already have pretty big classes -

8. Syracuse - 5
7. UVA - 6
6. Michigan - 10
5. Princeton - 7
4. Harvard - 8
3. UNC - 11
2. Duke - 8
1. Notre Dame - 8

I think Notre Dame, Duke, UNC and Harvard will make up the top four when the dust settles. Hopefully SU can leapfrog some of the other teams listed above them though. Having two five stars and two other top 50 players gives them a really good baseline. If they can stockpile a few more top 100 players/four stars they should be in a really good spot.

How many more are we planning to take, since we'll have to be at 48 players eventually?
