According to FanLax, Chase Mullins (fogo) is going to UVA. Not as big a need for SU as of now, but perhaps something to monitor

Ya SU is out on a transfer FOGO from what I know. Unless some other O big name shakes free I wouldn't expect any additional moves at this point.

Really feels like not adding another midfielder into the fold from the portal is a major oversight by the staff. Kid from Adelphi would’ve been ideal. Now they NEED rising soph’s and incoming freshmen to contribute.

Hope Gary and the staff are able to identify which ones can help right away. Took way too long for Anderson to see the field this past season. Can one of Hahn, McIntee, Koby White step up on offense? Gonna need it

As I’ve said before, the only one I am truly bummed about is Sharp from Yale. Would have filled the English void nicely. We seem to have very little success landing Yale transfers. We have had some slight beef with the 2017 game and the heated scrimmages that followed.

gasp they'll have to use their own recruited players now...this is how it's supposed to work...if none of hahn mcintee white or anyone else can step up as a second midfielder then you have to question recruiting

im not surprised they didnt grab another o-mid...i am a lil surprised they didnt get a second d-mid...bowen is a decent get...but they dont have as many bodies there as on the offensive end... they will prob have to convert someone and hope they take to the role..

some schools have a flat policy that you have to do half the credits + for an undergrad degree. he was unique as a transfer with 3 years in his school (and just one year remaining for eligibility).

some schools may not have that policy, but depending on what credits move over, would need to require, say 43 credits to get a degree at new school. he may have wanted certain things like new school degree in a year/champ opportunity/ and/or other.

We’re playing for a natty here. Not saying recruiting your own talent and developing isn’t part of the game, but graduating English leaves a major dodging gap at O-mid.

Bringing in a veteran who can do that would’ve made me feel a lot better about their championship aspirations heading into next season, that’s all. Not sure the “gasp” was necessary as I’m pointing out roster flaws

This does sort of feel like the 2021 season. SU had a majority of their players back from a season where they were 5-0 and finished the shortened season ranked #1. SU didn't have a ton of playing time to offer, and it felt like other teams (Maryland for one) loaded up on the portal and passed SU by. It's more complicated than just that (face-off rule changes really messed with Jacob Phaup), but it does feel like history repeating itself with Maryland again loading up again in the portal. Feels like SU is a victim of their own success in a way.

I guess the big question is if the staff decides to move Thomson back to midfield. He's not going to dodge like English, but he can replicate his offensive numbers. I think the big question is depth - the seniors will have to score a ton but someone else needs to emerge. Lots of pressure on Anderson.

Most of their games last year were won on the strength of their defense, not video game numbers from the offense like in 2021. There are some parallels, but this is not as sure a thing as adding Keegan Khan and Donville to an already bonkers offense like in 22.

Bernhardt graduated after 2021, so Khan and Donville came in to play with, say, Wisnauskas and DeMaio.
Wisnauskas had 73 points in 2021, which is a step better than Spanos' 55 last year, but it is fair to note that many (like those who work at I.L.) in the preseason questioned whether Wisnauskas would be able to score as much without Bernhardt there.

Donville looked like he was going to break out in the covid year 2020, but prior to that he had 34 points in 2019.
Khan Keegan was an Honorable Mention AA at attack in 2021, scoring 58 points in 12 games, but Villanova just played Big East competition (except for Lehigh), so there was some question about the level of competition he had faced.
Both really proved themselves well at UMd, but I think your post has a bit of 20-20 hindsight to it.

L.Johnson had 46 points (3.54 per game) and Lyons had 41 points (3.15 per game) in 13 games played last year. If we multiply these numbers by 18/13 (the Terps played 18 games in 2022 and 2025) we get Johnson - 63, Lyons - 57. Both also had the big seasons in 2023 as you note.

So I think in an "a priori", that is, before coming to Maryland analysis, Johnson and Lyons look pretty comparable to Donville and Khan (perhaps even better). Further it was not such a sure thing going into 2022 either - lots of people were wondering how the loss of Bernhardt would affect the team.

Also, don't count out Erksa. He has a lot of speed and athleticism, and could put it together in his final year.

I fully believe this. Right now lax is one of the few, if only sport, where offense wins championships. I don't talk trash or be obnoxious about other teams if I can help it (besides Rutgers and Hobart, they earn it) but I also don't have to gas a team up like Maryland just because.

you should have nothing to worry about, then! it isn't some high-level analysis that few people had the cheat code for. but it was said then by me and i'm sure others, and it's now 6 years old and still ticking. there's more possessions, certainly in the games where one team might want to shorten it. you have to make more stops. a goal, overall, is worth less.

none of that is to say there won't be low scoring games. somewhere close to 50% of a team's games are going to have a lower goal count than their average. the point is for when you get into a rockfight game, and your offense isn't clicking like normal, you stand a much better chance of weathering that storm if your squad has shown a superior ability at that end. so your low scoring sole example fits right in. you still manage 8, 9 or 11 instead of 6 or 7. and "have to" isn't meant to be taken literally like impossible. there will be example of a team overcoming it at some point. i think.

as far as benson, correlation doesn't equal causation but we get more correlation every year. eventually it might.
