25 of the USA’s most underrated destinations

Spent the holiday weekend in the mountains of WV in Snowshoe. Discovered the place a couple years ago and now love it in mid-Summer to escape the heat and mayhem of DC for a couple days. Was about 70 versus 88 and was a perfect getaway.

I've been to at least 14 of these places. I couldn't imagine a more wonderous, scenic drive than the drive on Utah highway 12 from Bryce Canyon to Capitol Reef national parks (122 miles), which is through the Grand Staircase-Escalante.

Many mountain roads have one side of the road against a steep drop off, but at one point called the "Hogsback" stretch, this Rte 12 has steep drop offs on BOTH sides of the road, for a 5 or 6 mile (?) stretch. The road is on top of a ridge just wide enough for the 2-lane roadway. Kind of terrifying for the driver; just keep the car between the yellow and white lines, and don't look off the sides! Spectacular and very varied scenery the whole way.
