2nd annual College Draft

The last pick of the 8th round is Virginia Tech (Helps my mid atlantic pod)
images

And the first pick of the 9th round is California (Helps my USC pod...actually the State Flagship)

I was pretty sure this was going to happen and illustrates why the Giants fan will ultimately get my vote...

The pix are getting dicier...just wait until you get to Northwestern, the Ivies or the MAC...

Alright these are some factors I will evaluate the conferences with tomorrow

Which conference will be the most profitable?
Who has the best overall conference?
Who has the best football conference?
Who has the best basketball conference?
Which conference will get the highest TV contract?
Which conference has the best geographic balance?
Which conference has the most academic prestige?
Which pick was the best value pick?
Which pick was the biggest reach pick?
Any FA schools a conference should sign and dump another school?

Funny that there is no mention of preserving natural rivalries, considering that on this board at least, that always seems to be the number one concern in any conference realignment.

Funny that there is no mention of preserving natural rivalries, considering that on this board at least, that always seems to be the number one concern in any conference realignment.
That was in the guidelines for drafting in the first post I made. This how they drafted.

The guidelines will be
1. The draft is 17 rounds, you draft 16 NCAA Division 1 universities/colleges and 1 Commissioner for your conference.
2.To draft the best overall athletic conference can you.
3.This conference has to be able to command as high a TV contract as you can generate.
4. 80% of TV money comes from Football, 20% comes basketball, and remember a lot of TV sets increases the chances of forming a TV network. So remember football matters more than basketball
5. Try to protect rivalries that much sense economically for your conference depending on teams you draft.
6. Academics matter, but are not an important factor.
7. Setup your divisions with your conference when your done, and if you have any protected games good luck.

So San Diego State goes to a conference that already has Stanford and UCLA? But the Boston market is left out?

what forbes list were people working off? and why does it matter if the school ultimately makes a profit, the CONF is what its all about and if you have crap in your conf that nobody will like to watch, like indiana, miss st, vandy, iowa st and with kelly gone...his entire western pod, i see no reason why thats a feasable $$ maker.

since my conf makes sense, i dont have to do pods. i can do a North & South.

Just some information

12 of 14 B1G teams were drafted no Rutgers or Northwestern
12 of 14 ACC teams were drafted no Boston College or Wake Forest
14 of 14 SEC teams were drafted
12 of 12 Pac-12 teams were drafted
9 of 10 Big XII teams were no Baylor
3 of 12 Mountain West teams drafted
2 Independents were drafted Notre Dame and BYU.

The highest rise in draft pick this year was UCLA which went from 37th overall in the 9th round last year to 12th overall in the 3rd round this year. The biggest fall was Arizona which went from 17th in the 5th round to 49th overall in the 13th round.

I was pretty sure this was going to happen and illustrates why the Giants fan will ultimately get my vote...

The pix are getting dicier...just wait until you get to Northwestern, the Ivies or the MAC...

I beg your pardon...My first picture was as dicey as any of them...I went down that road early and often. My league will appeal to voters whom apprereciate awesome tailgates and pretty girls...What is more American than that? You can tailgate in the TexanMark league in shorts in November.

agree with Kaizer here - current 'profitability' is pretty meaningless as it is based on the current conference affiliation and their TV deals - which wouldn't necessarily be the case in their new conference if they're not benefiting from the nearby top teams. For instance - Purdue gets Big10 $ thanks to being in a league with UM, OSU, Wisky, PSU - but without the value they get from simply being aligned with those top programs they aren't worth squat - no one would care about them in any revenue sport.

Look at Arb's selections...a few high points that should be noted:
1. Average football attendance is 53,781
--5 teams top 25 in attendance: Penn State, Florida, Fl.State, Clemson, BYU
--Football revenue average: $68,000,000
2. College Football '13 results
-BCS record: 3-1 wins: FSU, Stanford, Louisville, (Fl lost to Louisville)
-12 bowl teams with record: (8 wins and 4 losses)
3. 7 teams in the NCAA March Madness
--Two teams in final 4
--national champion
--Bball revenue top 40 include: Louisville, 'Cuse, UCLA, UNLV and Maryland
--21 of top 125 revenue generating bball programs
4. Academics: Average rank of 72
5. Covers East: Middle Atlantic and South bringing in states of NY, Florida, Georgia, KY, Maryland, and Phil and West: Calif, Wash, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho
5. Travel within Pods tight...so that fans of each university can travel easily to games

Conferences and Pods
Conference E-S
East
Syracuse, Penn State, Maryland, Louisville
South
Florida, FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech

Conference Far West-West
Far West
UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State, Washington St
West
BYU, Boise St, UNLV, San Diego State

Football: Each conference will play 7 games against conference teams and will host 1 game from other conference and travel 1 game for football.
Championship Game will pit the winner of each conference winner

Bball: Each team play 1 game against two division teams from other conference
Championship will be determined by all teams playing in Chicago (conference to provide travel stipend for each team).

Importantly, these universities represent THE Flagship School in their state:
Syracuse, Maryland, Penn State, Florida/FSU, UNLV, BYU, Louisville...
and would be considered Co-flagship in their states: Clemson, Georgia Tech, UCLA/Stanford, Oregon St, Washington St, Boise St...

Current profitability is more meaningful than pure speculation of something we will never be able to find out. Its not just who they are associated with now either. Otherwise every team in a conference would br profitable. Also, how valuable a team is reflects the big boys who would be valuablefootball regardless of who they would be with.

Obviously Arb thinks Boise State, San Diego State are better than the Eastern teams like Wake Forest, Rutgers, UConn or Midwest Northwestern, or Southwest Baylor. He was trying to maintain geography. I honestly am having a hard time determining which conference is best. He gave a good explanation for his picks and the other 3 are stacked. This year's conferences are better than last year's I think.

I would hold off on your evaluation a bit until full disclosure of empirical data is disclosed. I mean Arb is touting things where he doesn't even have 25% of a piece of data. With 4 drafters, 25% should be the norm.

Btw Arb. You say BYU is top 25 in attendance. They aren't, but are close. According to the NCAA they were 26th for 2012. The NCAA lusts the top 30 in attendance and you had 6. Less than 25% as was Mark with 7. I had 8 and Kaiser had 9. So Kaiser and I are above the expected 25% while you and Mark are below.
