I just read this post and looked up at the tv (Army-Navy) and they showed Newberry in the booth. It's a sign!

Defensive coordinator Brian Newberry has implemented a more creative, deceptive system and adopted a more aggressive mentality. The results? Dramatic.

Here are some key things -

Newberry has installed the same defensive system at Navy that he used at Kennesaw State, moving the Midshipmen from a static, straightforward 3-4 base scheme to a more dynamic 4-2-5. Everyone on the defense is a potential blitzer, he said, and there's constant movement before the snap. The goal is to create chaos and sow confusion. (Sounds like a lot of what people want/thought was best about Shafer as DC, yeah?).

Last season, for example, the Midshipmen ranked 92nd against the run and 121st out of 129 Bowl Subdivision teams on third down. This season, they are 17th and 29th, respectively. It's the main reason they've gone from 3-10 a year ago to 9-2.
