Will put Syracuse into sixth place of best tournament performance of college basketball programs since 1985 (i.e. the modern era). I came up with a simple ranking system that rewards teams for Final Fours and beyond: 1 point for a final four, 2 points for the runner up and 4 points for the championship. Recent success is not considered, either, just how many FFs there are since 1985.
Pre-2013 tournament top-ten:
1. Duke (27)
2. UNC (18)
3. Kansas (17)
4. Kentucky (16)
5. UConn (13)
6. Florida (11)
7. Mich. St (10)
8. UCLA (8)
8. Arizona (8)
8. Syracuse (8)
8. Michigan (8)
After this tournament, SU will at least be above Arizona and UCLA with a minimum of (9) points and possibly tie Mich St. at (10) points with a runner-up and jump Florida with a championship, giving them (12) points and in a great position to pass UConn and put them among the "elite" (even if this little ranking system doesn't prove they are already elite).
You have to be optimistic about the trajectory of the Syracuse basketball program; a few more great years and we're right there with the blue-bloods as far as tournament success goes.
