A simple poll for the gang

Not fine with it but again I think the the cupboard was pretty bare
That's what people said about Greg Robinson. And they were right, the cupboard was bare - but Gerg still sucked.

The cupboard is much less bare now than it was then. And Shafer is accomplishing the same incompetence that Gerg was.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I had no idea so many Syracuse fans are just fine and dandy with 3 win seasons and offensive rankings in the 100's. Sad.
No one is saying they are happy with that and you know it. It's about the future. Some believe Shafer can pull us out of the 15 years of hell if you give him time ... unlike what the "sack Mac pack" wanted to give Mac at one time.

3 straight bowl free seasons huh? I guess you can see into the future...

No bowl this year. No bowl last year. Very close to no bowl in 2013.

1+1+1=3 right?

On this board, I feel like I still need to ask that sometimes.

People can make as many excuses for the man as they want. But Shafer is what he is - a 3-4 win coach. He's proven that. Took a program on the upswing and ran it back into the ground.

And I shouldn't have to explain how different college football is now than it was in the 1980's.

You have to show progress in 3 years not a reversal of what was trending in the right direction. 1st year OK other than the blowout losses. 2nd and 3rd year have been abysmal and worthy of firing

Very good thread, with legitimate points made across the spectrum. Wouldn't want to have to make this call.

Ok not sure who said that 80% of the posters wanted HCSS and his staff fired but i guess they were just a little off.

Somebody else can check the count but based on what i just did the results so far are the following.

18 want HCSS fired

25 want HCSS retained

Again, timing on this isn't great.

Do it again if the nuclear scenario comes to pass. Which is 3-9 and Dungey's career is over.

Anyone who chooses the retain option at that point should have to have a 100 word defense of their position. I wouldn't want to read any further.

That should just about settle it then. The Board has spoken. That is, until the next poster decides to make another poll. Or, the results of the NCS are known, whatever comes first.

Maybe a silent poll...Many people won't put there name on the word Fire but will silent vote for him to be fired. Plus we just did a poll like this 2 weeks ago

SWC did the same exercise 10 days ago 188 voted. 130-fire, 58-retain. 70% wanted him gone.

This exercise had 43 votes. I trust 188 votes over 43.

His win/loss record is what it is. Whether there are circumstances that have prevented him from demonstrating his coaching acumen, and all that entails, will be a never ending ending topic of debate. Unless he goes 3-9 next year, then will know for "sure" - maybe.

For me, it has more to do with his vision and philosophy. Defense and toughness first is a great plan if you can consistently recruit those types of players. But that has to be a leap of faith. There is a lot evidence out there to support that high scoring O gives you a better chance of winning.

I strongly feel we need to follow that trend. If that's not consistent with SS vision...

I trust a large segment are on the fence and swing back and forth.
145 more people voted in SWC's poll. SWC is one the most level headed and respected posters. I believe he is on keep SS side.
70% of the people in his poll voted fire SS. This thread has had 43 voters total I don't believe making it seem like this vote is better when a lot fewer voted.
This poll is what Republicans want on election day low turnout. Atleast the other poll had a lot more turnout. People want to win games. Not keep a coach because he says likable things and buzzwords. Unless you hire Bobby Petrino type your HC is going to be an honorable man.

SS is our Mike Tice. Decent guy but in overhead his as HC. Should never be a HC is a great DC or OL coach for Tice.

In the Big East you can recruit defense and running game because there wasn't an extreme talent gap. I feel Shafer would have or could have been a good coach in the big east. He has that type Of philosophy and attitude.

Problem is we aren't in the Big East anymore we will not win that philosophy and recruiting. I feel may are still stuck with that line of thinking. We will never be able to out recruit people or line up against an ACC opponent that we can just man handle and out physical.

That is why I am in favor of a change. If we want to be relevant in the ACC or even the Nation we need to change the way we do things. We need to spread it out and scheme our people open on offense. We have to use our Dome as an actual home field advantage. We have to do things different in a different conference.

fire. regardless. if we win the last two and end up 5-7, it only further proves this was a bowl calibur team since HCSS cost us at least 2 games with his game day decisions.
