Long time lurker, 10 year section 115 season ticket holder. While Shafer was or DC under marrone, my friend and I would be at the railing at 115 as Shafer came over as the DC to warm up the dbs with drills. He would always come over and chat with us about the previous weeks game and was entirely engaging. This guy is all about the cuse. Yes, he was a coordinator thrusted into a head coaching position with young assistants. Record wise he isnt doing it. However, recruiting is definitely trending upward, the kids love him and his staff, and we are playing tons of young, talented guys. I want him to stay and be a lifer but he will need to make some staff changes. This team is an oline and db coach away from a bowl this year! Why fire him and hit the reset button setting back recruiting and the systems we have in place. Yes, he is learning to be a game manager on the job, but he is all about the cuse and getting better. Lester is a,talent. Talked to ron Thompson on our way outta the dome after the game and he made it clear that these kids want to win for him. Lets go cuse!

Is OL the problem? I really don't think so. Dungey throwing 2 picks back to back was the problem last week (after being cold cocked by another dirty hit). Not recognizing the punt fake was another.

Where have you been? We need more of your type on here.

There is no question these kids are all-in on Shafer. They freaking love the guy and you can tell how competitive we've played these games despite the shear inexperience on this team.

The o line isnt the problem (still not convinced reed is) But good post.

It seems every team is head hunting for Dungy , I can't believe no one with power ( AD , Seyvrud , Media) is not calling this out . It would never be allowed in the NFL , why is it in the ACC, Swofford?

both lines need to get better. if they grow up a bit next year, and the d-backs gel (and no serious/major injuries), 8-4 should be doable

In addition I would ask the people on here to tell me when is the last time they saw another QB take one helmet to helmet shot , let alone the 4 that Eric has taken. I , as I'm sure most of you , watch a lot of college football , and I can not think of one other QB taking one of these unsportsmenlike hits this year.

Vick claims he was always targeted. That was more to explain why he sucked though.

Sometimes players have knacks for not getting hit. Or hit hard.

Flutie never took one bc he was so elusive. Dungey may not b that way

There is a ton of keep shafer support on twitter right now from the team. The kids want him to stay, unlike Miami and Golden. Keep Shafer, and let this play out.

I agree completely. I swear there are 3 plays every single game where the defense is clearly headhunting him and getting away with it. I just don't know how to respond anymore.

The helmet-to-helmet hit during the Pitt game wasn't even flagged as a penalty. Nor the "helmet grab" on Dungey. How can that be? Where's all of the "we must protect the QB" talk? Zero consistency and accountability by the refs and conference leadership on these types of plays (I.e., CMU cheap shot/MAC, Pitt/ACC). Sick of it.

dungey has taken 5-6 head shots.. can you remember any that mcnabb took in his whole career ?

The one in Virginia where he leaped the safety , that guy went high at his helmet and no flag. Doesn't Coyle see this.

If I were the AD I'd be sending tapes to the ACC offices each week.

I think Eric's "style" of running is different. He seems to lower his torso often. I've actually thought a couple of hits he's taken that he was the reason for the hit.

Eric does need to pick his spots better, his big hits are being absorbed between the tackles. His 25-30 yd scamper in the 4th quarter setting up the game tying field goal was a perfect use of his skillset. He got a chunk and stepped out of bounds. I would like to see lester roll him out or half roll him with options. I trust his decision making. I think the kid is going to be a national star. ..shhhhhh

the problem with the #istandwithshafer Twitter stuff is that it suggests that momentum is gaining for his firing...which doesn't help recruiting...and I believe is ultimately wrong. He'll be back next year.

Wrong. 2 picks are bad but they feel a lot worse when you only run 10 plays a game.

And even if there were momentum ( I agree there isn't) this all sounds a little too freetibet takebackthenight do I need to wear a ribbon

I'll be interested to see how he does in the upcoming weeks. I don't necessarily expect to win but I would like to keep them close ala the LSU game. In years past shafer has been blown out by ranked teams and overmatched opponents. This year every game has been very close, even the LSU game which they are a top ranked team. Obviously the goal is to win but that needs to be learned and takes time. These close competitive games give me hope that he is learning. I have less issues with what I see this year then in years past. Players are getting better and games are more competitive. Still work to be done and improvements need to be made to the staff imo but unlike last year, I have some hope that shafer can get it fixed.
