A surprise phone call during game yesterdayay

My east coast son was at the game and met some alumni. There was one that Gregg saw and recognized and got to talking with for a while . He told the person that I was a big fan and my situation so this person asked if he could call me. Gregg said sure. My phone rang and I. said the usual "hello.the response was this" Is this Chris and I said "yes" He said Hi Chris, Im Damn Conley, I used to play linebacker for Syracuse. Of course I responded with the fact he was one of my favorite all-time LBers ever.wearing #49. He said "Thank you" and I said" No,thank you" and he went back to watching the game

I went to a golf tournament in Western Mass last month and the guy in the group in front of me was extremely familiar and i couldn't place him. Another guy in the group was wearing a fuse football shirt and i asked hi where he was from and shared that i was a fan of the team. He looks and says do you know who that guy is, and it dawns on me that it is Conley. I kept thinking he was a former Patriot when i first saw him which is why i struggled to match face to name. He and his friends are a great time, he is fresh off of knee replacement and hits the ball a mile.

He and Freeney are the best defensive players I have seen in 30 years of following SU football. Really nice that he called you Cali, sounds like it made your day. Along with the SU win of course

I'm sorry that he changed his name to a curse. I always thought "Dan" was a very nice name.

My favorite player. Talk about hard nosed. Too bad injuries cut him down. Def would have played Sundays
