I have come to the conclusion that the ACC Refs are protecting Clemson so they can qualify for the playoffs. Clemson brings a lot to the conference and the conference wants Clemson in the playoffs. I had to turn off the game on Saturday after the non call on Shader on the out of bounds Play. There was no way the refs were going to allow SU to win and I wasn't going to watch it. This call came after a movement call on SU where the only motion was the Center moving his head to look between his legs so he could hike the ball. One of the worst calls I have ever seen. I am a retired auditor and in my business we called it "Cooking the Books".

I don't disagree with you as it has just happened on too many occasions. The illegal man down field call ? The late hit and pass interference calls were a joke. 3rd and 25 and gave Clemson a first down and a touchdown. The thing is, it is not just Cuse fans that see it this time. The whole country saw the blatant one sided calls with the game on the line.

Clemson fans just keep repeating what about the holding non calls, that happens every game. I am sure if I analyzed the game I would find plenty no calls on Cuse DL as well. The reality is the late hit call (that should have never been a penalty) and the PI call changed the game in a significant way. There is definitely Clemson bias and the college football fans everywhere got to see. It's a shame...I legitimately feel if the game is called fair then we win.

100%! Those calls were replayed all over TV Saturday night. Everyone outside of Clemson knows the deal.

If we didn't play scared the entire second half and gave the ball to our all american RB we win the game.

The refs played a small role but we did this to ourselves. Sick of the excuses.

It hurts so much more because of this. We were the better team in the first half. Two beautiful drives on offense, great defense. Leading in 2018 felt like a bit of a fluke; this year we were better and just lost. I honestly didn't know a sports loss could still make me feel this way.

I’ve come to the conclusion that ACC refs don’t like Northern teams. This nonsense happens no matter what is on the line when playing a Southern team.

Pitt is the reigning ACC champion.

The team watched the Journey hype video before kickoff and then the Eminem one at halftime. Clearly.

Yup and it must drive them crazy. I’d be interested to see their boards and see if they’ve had similar experiences when they had Pickett.

It isn't just an excuse. Look, we hurt ourselves. No question. Letting the clock run 30 seconds before calling the time out. Just dumb. But the bigger issue to me, and those are big issues, is that I went in the game worried that the league and the refs wouldn't let us win. The P.I.??? You never see that called a P.I. The hit out of bounds was obvious. The ref was brokenhearted they had to reverse the sideline pass. I do wonder if there would have been another call if we had scored late. The ACC wanted and needed Clemson to win that game. Syracuse would not have got in the playoff if we ran the table. Can't you hear Paul Finebaum now? Oh, and by no means am I saying that the game is fixed. It isn't. It just the league knows who to assign the game to. And how those guys call a game.

I will preface this with it will never happen This is why I am a proponent of refs for conference games come from other conferences. Or, just get rid of "conference officials" and have them be just a part of one large group of NCAA officials.
Why would any league ever do that? They want the control. That is the point.

Again, I prefaced it with it would never happen. Can you argue that it wouldn't take the favoritism away?

Oh no. It would. I wasn't being critical of your idea. Just that the league wants that control.

That's what interesting, two things can be true and are not mutually exclusive. It's not an excuse, it's a fact that the refs played a substantial role. It's also true that not giving the ball to Tucker is a disgrace and could have also costed us the game. Running the ball more with Tucker and/or better refereeing both win us the game.

The message to the players should always be "don't put yourself in a position for a ref to make a call" in any road game against a higher ranked team. The Fuentes call unfortunately was exactly that, as was the personal foul after that.

The PI was bad but Clemson would've been playing a different style of defense if they were up 3 instead of 6 on that last drive.

Good post.

I can tell when someone has never played the sport at any meaningful level, and experienced that swing of emotion and what it does to the on field physical performance when this situation arises. That lack of meaningful experience results in solely an X's and O's gameplan only analysis of sport which is short sighted.

Combine that feeling that your not up just against the very talented team (who finally woke up) but the refs too, along with your own short sighted staff and the erroneous second half game plan, and it’s an inevitable outcome. You put no credence in the former and only the latter and you’re wrong.

The spark is indeed the refs biased calls and non calls which starts all too often the inevitable cascade. It’s pretty simple to anyone whose been there and experienced it. Sometimes you can overcome it, too often ya can’t.

Eh. Both things can be true. The fallacy is that refs "played a small role"... they extended the two drives that led to scores when Clemson was desperate. It's a joke.

Nope. He was escorting the player out of bounds and got knocked into. If he lets him tip toe down the line he steals yards. It's bogus.

Clemson should not have had the pre-halftime FG if Clemson fans want their way. Their RT tackled and grabbed the jersey of our guy right in front of the Head Referee, no call. They completed a pass and kicked a FG. Basically the emergency "Clemson's down two scores" call from the ACC front office kicked in
