ACC, PAC-12, and BIG alliance / conference realignment

I wonder is SDSU pulled out of the Pac12 move because they knew Colorado was leaving and that the Pac12 was nowhere near a tv contract deal. More this goes on, the more it looks like SDSU made the right choice.

Arizona draw more fans to games than ASU for football AND more viewers on TV than ASU. Not sure why this myth persists otherwise. Far better get than ASU if you are choosing one (though I doubt they split)

That plus the fact that AZ hoops is by far the best program of the 4 revenue programs.

I still don't think they split in the end tho.
ASU is leaping forward academically. Growing in size exponentially and is located in the center of the 5th largest city in America. I promise you - their leadership and vision far surpasses what’s happening in Tucson. It’s night and day. ASU is heavily invest in ALL campus facilities ALL its graduate programs and all of its athletic programs. They are trying to be a western rival to Ohio State - in size, scope and presence.

The days of it being a joke are long gone.

You want to add all these programs to have a better basketball league but you leave UConn out? Ya got to give the devil his due man.
It wasn’t an oversight, thought about it but Uconn has a football team and I think football drives the bus still, and the other teams bring more eyeballs for football

Chancellor/President is a Cuse grad too :)

Some of these posts crack me up. It’s like I’m picking my team in gym class (sorry, PE class). The only ones left to pick aren’t athletic at all. That’s where we’re at with who’s left to snag in all of this conference talk. But some posters think SMU or Uconn has so so much value to add that the ACC is doing a terrible job not being proactive. I must be blind, is Uconn going to add 20+ million extra dollars in value so Clemson and FSU don’t leave at some point. Then split that between the teams we add NOBODY OF IMPORTANCE wanted (that’s the SEC and B10 for those not following along).

Come on, let’s use some brain power with this. THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO DO. The teams that mattered are in the top two conferences. Clemson isn’t staying in 2036 because we added Uconn, temple, SMU and some other loser school.

The only thing that makes any sense is adding some/all remnants of the P12 who still have names to them and hope that’s enough. But eventually when our best schools in the ACC bolt we’ll at least have schools with a name like Oregon. Not to be mistaken with that community college FB team, Uconn.

the Pac whatever group of leftovers , have some teams that could help things, but right now it isn't a good time for asking espn to poney up the extra $ along with among other things as there are a max of 7 slots available in my opinion. Do we really want to take 7 out west or take 6 with an additional midwest or east team down the road or can we get 4 out west to commit while involving or modifying the ND scheduling agreement. The big 12 is not taking more than 1 more from the pac at this time so we can afford to be somewhat patient as our top choices are unlikely to be moving on to the big 12. I think we want to leave some slots open for near the end of this decade.

They may not have known about Colorado but no question they bailed because there was no deal yet. If they had gone ahead with the move and then the deal sucked and the conference collapsed they are screwed. Which of course is exactly what appears to be happening. They went through this already with the Big East move that didn’t happen when the BE collapsed

Yeah outside of ND or maybe plucking WVU from the Big 12, nothing else is that attractive that’s realistic.

ASU alumnus here. Agree on all points. If one of the programs has an exceptional year, the stage is set for them to absolutely explode. Their academics have taken an absolutely incredible leap in the last 10-15 years largely due to Crow, who my PhD advisor (at a different school) once met and described as "A Greek God"

Oh, and he's also an SU guy.

What you are missing is that the haves as you call them don't want out. They want more money. If the ACC could add teams that would accept a lower payout than the existing members, it could work. Other than Florida State NC and Virginia i don't see any ACC teams that add value to either the SEC or the Big and that is questionable.
I think UVA is vastly overrated as a media draw.

Arizona barely outdrew them last year. 5 yr average tells a different tale

I didn’t say it was the move we should make. Just that it’s the only move to make if a move was made at all. At this point, everyone out there is leftovers.

nd isnt technically

God, I hate today's journalism. That headline is so misleading.
Net/Net if FSU leaves they are at best buying the ACC members a large exit fee and a pound of Gor flesh.

From that standpoint I would assume whatever settlement was struck would be penal enough to make everyone else hesitate. Maybe FSU decides that the lawsuit would linger longer than a viable ACC and being first out means something.

I think that FSU is positioning themselves to force the unequal distribution model that has been discussed. They will lose a GOR challenge

The B16/SEC payout would need to be...

B16/SEC$ - ACC$ = ACC$

Or twice as much. Otherwise they can't leave. This is the same FSU that couldn't afford to upgrade facilities, part of the reason Jimbo left. They don't have the money to buyout the GOR. The SEC doesn't need FSU (it cannibalizes recruiting) and I doubt the B16 would make an exception for FSU academically. So where do they think they are going? FSU is run by kooks.
