According to twitter: Chandler to announce tomorrow...

Didn't we actually run practices without contact during the 2010 season due to lack of bodies? If I remember correctly, we were way below the 85 scholly limit prior to the injury bug.

I remember that also that we had some practices late in the year where Marrone said he backed off and we did some thud drills.

Here is a good question. Why is it 3 straight years now we have finished the season on fumes and nothing left in the tank? Is it just SU or is that true of most teams? Do we do something wrong that doesn't allow for us to finish strong? Do we go TOO hard in practice thus more guys get banged up?

IMO, Marrone erred by running off several players upon his arrival, as well as self inflicted departures ala Collier and Sales. Kids like Speller, Kay, Sheeran, etc should be available at least in a depth capacity by now.

We have been far too reliant on underclassmen for the last two years, it's sickening. Very few freshman or even redshirt freshman are ready to play division 1 football. It is a very difficult adjustment physically and mentally. There is a major difference between a 23 year old with five years of s and c and practice reps and an 18 years old with summer ball under his belt.

This is compounded by Marrone's push into NYC, where a senior in HS is probably equivalent to a 16 years old elsewhere.

This is a fantastic point that I don't think gets enough attention. I understand that NYC has talented players (i.e/ Ishaq Williams), but does it make sense to concentrate so much of your recruiting effort into this area?

Are there enough quality D1 skilled players in that area? Does it actually pay enough dividends considering that you have the nationally recognized hotbeds of NJ and PA that share borders with your state?

You have to think the level of competition these players are going against in NYC is sub-par compared to more traditional recruiting areas.

It's tough to outrun anyone with on one leg. Good lord some of you all are goddamned oblivious. Jones was playing with one knee and was about 50% out there.

It was a hell of a play to make in the first place, especially with your knee ligaments gaming on by a thread.

Oh and as for Marinovich, you ever herniated several discs? Try taking on 300 pound lineman with numbness and weakness in your extremities, then get back to me.

Am I pissed the way we finished up? Absolutely. Should we have made a bowl game? Yes. However, I see a lot of people making silly assumptions and it's getting tiresome. This team had absolutely nothing left in the tank over the last four games - our starting corners had casts on for christsakes.

Well said.

Not a bad explanation. But many of the guys wearing down or being so dinged are experienced players like Jones, Marinovich, Lemon, etc. While I am one that thinks every team has injuries, I am more concerned about the running out of gas late in the season. Also, as to too much youth, I agree on NYC kids but many teams play as many if not more young kids than us. Because their youth is better than ours, the good teams play a lot of true frosh and RF.

I think the whole program has been grinding since day one. Last year I think it was a numbers issue. This year between the injuries and two years of constant work and it wears on the team.

Sheeran would have graduated in 2010.

If Kay and Speller had the same bad habits that Phil Thomas or Brice Hawkes or EJ Carter had, would you still want them around?

They issue isn't the quality of the athlete, it's that they aren't as developed coming in as other players. They don't have access to the off season S&C that other areas do. They also don't have the level of coaching, practice, or game snaps, that other areas do.

Marrone's long term plan is to mine NYC for high quality athletes and have the program to the point where they don't have to be thrown on the field immediately but time to develop.

There are a good number of 4 or 5 star athletes in NYC but are 2 or 3 star players coming out of HS.

If I can flip your question, why were we willing to take a chance on Thomas/Hawkes/Carter, but not Kay and Speller?

Nobody knows for sure what Kay and Speller did to piss Marrone off, or how many times they did it.

I assume that everyone gets more than one strike. I doubt anyone gets more than three.

You have to pick your poison with the fan crowd.

Wore down at the end of the year? Practice too hard! Coach's fault!

OK, so don't practice as hard. Execution suffers and the team isn't physical enough come game day. Didn't practice hard enough! Just like GRob! Coach's fault!

Not enough depth, too many young guys playing? See, he ran off players, coach's fault!

OK, keep the bad apples around, let it affect team cohesiveness, etc. AHA! He lost the team! Coach's fault!

IMO we are stuck right now due to the numbers game and our recruiting, as you said. The guys we are getting need to add weight quickly and then let it "settle in" for a year or two. I also wonder about how practice reps are distributed, and if maybe the first teamers are going too much.

If practices go anything like games, the 1st teamers see 95% of the practice time. :noidea:

Announcing it to who? I can't see much of a media turnout. I imagine Brent Axe with a microphone standing alone waiting for his decision. But nobody will hear it cause the signal on 1260 goes for about 40 yards.

It would be odd for him to hold an announcement to say he is staying. I would guess he is gone.

He is on vacation! His producers have to do the show..

Well, It's starting to blow up on twitter that he is going pro. Definitely surprised.

I'm not surprised at his decision. He has nothing to gain by coming back. If anything, he risks injury by coming back. Thanks for your years in orange, Chan.

ChanJones99 Chandler Jones

I have decided to forego my final football season at Syracuse University and enter the 2012 NFL draft.

good luck to him, despite the lack of stats, he has a good motor and you could see a difference in their front with him in the game. will have his degree, makes sense. interesting choice to string everyone along
