ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

I’ve always liked Dino. Wanted him to be the hire in 16. The only issue I am having is that he does not want to change the offense. When he first started I always knew the team would score a lot of points. Now the team struggles to score points. I know the OL is an issue but it wasn’t much better in 16 and 17. Not sure if defenses have adjusted and Dino will not change or it’s the current personnel. I’m interested after Clemson if we are able to score points and have consistent drives.

Since names are out; how about the current Navy Coach, Ken Niumatalolo? He currently makes 2 mill a year?

It's not a scheme thing it's talent. We simply don't have acc caliber skill guys other than Tucker and a bad ol.

I like Dino and I also want us back, at least at the level that coach Mac had us at. We did that before and that would be a good placement for us now! Sure, the competition is tougher now but then we used to play Peed State!
It's not, for me, that we are losing; it's that we are being out coached and with predictable play calling. Where is the innovation that creates winning teams?

2021 and 2022 at a minimum

That's fine, but after what looks like a 1 win season, he has to win at least 4 in 2021, and at least 6 in 2022.

Who actually thinks he can turn it around in a year. A lot of ppl are saying bowl or bust. Do you actually see any possible path towards that.

We just need stability next year. Next year, we have to look like a football team.
We need to get to the root of all these injuries. We need to field a healthy, competitive squad next year.
Hoping for a bowl would be nice, but I just want to see basic line play again.
Four wins minimum. If he can't win four games, then he doesn't really belong here any longer.

I think the scariest thing is recruiting. The recruiting, even after wins against VT, Clemson, and a 10 win season haven't drastically improved. I believed for awhile there was a trend towards getting high caliber talent and now I'm not so sure. We still look smaller than most teams. Every year it's said, we're a young team. At some point you're not a young team anymore.

Higher quality players make better decisions on the field, need less time to be ready, are on a trajectory to improve across the board. We're on the cusp of a 1 - 2 win season potentially, 3 at best, and I can't say the players overall on the team are of a "higher quality" than the previous coaching staff.

But we have an "offensive guru" for a coach. Everyone believed that that alone would help to bring in high quality QB's and WR's. It hasn't happened, largely. Even after a 10 win season and a win at Clemson, recruiting #'s improved but I wouldn't say they improved to the degree those events should have created.

Where is recruiting going to go after winning 1 - 3 games this year and in the fashion they're happening. Even if we hold on to this class, they won't be ready to play in the next season or two. We have any level of injuries and a couple opt outs now and it turns in to losing to Liberty.

I just don't see what the end game is. HCDB hasn't shown he can win without some level of talent. Even if recruiting improves significantly we're 3 years away from seeing the potential positive impact of that.

This year is lost. Next year is hopefully recovery, to competency. Floor = 4 wins. Goal = 6+ wins.

2022, he must win 6+ and the goal should be 8 games.

If he can't do that, it's time to start identifying a new guy.
Those would be good goals for a newly hired coach. A guy in years 6,7,8 that got a lucrative contract extension, not so much.

Dino isn’t going to recruit top 25 classes all he has to do what he has done this cycle recruit a top 45 class and includes multiple 4 star recruits.

Dino needs to find a QB and recruit an OL.

This class has good OL recruits.
We need a transfer QB.
Dino isn’t a moron like the previous HC.
So the fanbase has that going for us. Our last HC was an embarrassment.

Dino has done a terrible job this year but isn’t an embarrassment.

The "moron" previous coach recruited Eric Dungey, one of the best QB's ever to play at Syracuse, without whom Dino would have never gotten 10 wins in 2018 and would likely be terminated by now.

I am not going to go on the record as to how many years Dino has left or what our record must be in 2021, but I will say this (and I am firmly a Dino supporter): Dino should focus on himself and work with his communications team on doing a MUCH better job communicating with his team and fanbase via the media. It's very very important that during times of adversity, leaders lead. Leaders communicate. Leaders portray confidence, vision and planning.

This is from June 11 (bold is BAD!):
"We've never gone through anything like this before," Babers responded. "I think back to Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood. This is going to be an adjust and improvise type of situation. I literally don't know what's going to happen two weeks from now. I can't look into the future and say, 'if we do this and this, we're going to be like this'. There's no history. There's no knowledge to pull from and now this is strictly a gut situation. We don't even have a long enough period to work on the basic fundamentals because we lost 12 practices in the spring, to make good, fair evaluations on people."

My shoulders slumped when I read this. And I wonder what his players thought if they did. It is as if he was setting up the media for the impending losing season, as if he wanted to be able to tell them after the fact, "I told you back in June we'd win 1 of 2 games. I just could not say it."

Fast forward a few months. I think we saw that someone got to Dino (likely ADJW) between Saturday afternoon (post Liberty) and Monday's presser. He improved on his messaging Monday. Put more thought into it. Wildhack needs to help coach Dino up here.

There are communications professionals (beyond his SIDs) that are experts in this realm. He cannot simply walk in from the practice field and wing it. He has to give this some thought, because he's on the verge of losing the 'benefit of the doubt.'

If he is going to ask his players to get bigger, faster, better between now and next season (which he should), Dino should work on his communicative tones, messages and timings. It would go a long way.

Please Dino, for your own good, less movie references.
Less Noah's Ark talk about Rhinos, Elephants.
You are not Bill Belichick. There is no real harm is building up some rapport with the local media and fanbase. Show some color and insight.

Worry less that an operative in Clemson's football office is listening or reading and realize that your own team and fanbase are.

This all needs to be cleaned up.

Hot take: the talent stinks, and Dino lost his chance to coach them up...putting us at an even bigger disadvantage. Normally he works magic getting them to be competitive, but he didn’t even have the chance.

He was using him wrong. Shafer made it a hot line. Dino made it a hot song.

Greg Robinson recruited Delone Carter, Ryan Nassib, Justin Pugh, Chandler Jones and he was a moron HC.

Congrats and thank you to former moron HCSS for recruiting Eric Dungey.

Yup. Dino had non NFL guys like EttaTawo(a scrub at Maryland), Ishmael, and Erv Phillips setting records here. Those were hardly elite talents. These new guys can’t even put up numbers here.

We need to find a way to get some WRs that are big and fast and can catch here.

What's your criteria for a coach? How cool that act on the sidelines or what answers they give at a press conference ?

Well, it's two things that pointed out Shafer was unhinged and that he was in way over his head.

But I am happy that his staff combed the high schools enough to find and take a chance on a lightly recruited kid from Oregon.

He also didn't start him until Hunt get injured, and nearly ended Dungey's career before his freshman year was over.

Dino Babers has been awful this year as HC in-game.
He hasn’t embarrassed the university during games like Shafer did multiple times and isn’t stupid enough to talk in press conferences like the previous HC did.

I got no problem giving Dino the criticism he deserves this year. It’s not Shafer’s Fault he was over his head and he got the job because the old AD wanted to save as much money as he could.

You can give Shafer credit for Lester finding Dungey online and getting him here.
Just like you can give GRob credit for recruiting those 4 NFL picks he got here that helped Marrone.

It doesn’t mean GRob and Shafer were good coaches.
They were awful HCs.

Having a 10 win season is in my criteria.

I've seen Nick Saban become "unhinged" and act like an arrogant jackass ay press conferences. Most college coaches come unhinged that I've seen. I like it, adds to the drama.

Gotta go nuts on the sidelines!! Get the boys pumped up!!!

Apples and potatoes.

Yelling at a coach for being mean and trying to score more points before halftime, and then telling us all to keep perspective because there are terrorist organizations aren't exactly Saban style outbursts.

He demands excellence from his team at all times, and then has to answer a bunch of dumb questions like why didn't you win by more points and sometimes he decides to let them have it.
