ADJW on Dino: "He's going to be our coach in 2021"

I will let you in on a secret. In 2018, the 10 win season, Louisville, FSU and North Carolina were in collapse and had their worst season in a long time, and WVU sat out their starting QB and several other of their best NFL talents.
That’s a loser response saying we only won because everyone else sucked. I guess Alabama and Clemson may have to let all their fans in on a little secret...

+73 point differential in those games. And that was with us missing multiple starters in a few of those games too

I watch AAC football, and I don't think Syracuse could compete in that league. They would be competitive in the MAC. That's the status of things after 5 years.

lol. They should have decided to play someone else when they realized so it would seem more worthy

AAC football is like “we got one!”

That 10 wins was smoke and mirrors. You know it's true. They are never going to catch that many teams down and out in the ACC again.

Dino isn’t going to recruit top 25 classes all he has to do what he has done this cycle recruit a top 45 class and includes multiple 4 star recruits.

Dino needs to find a QB and recruit an OL.

This class has good OL recruits.
We need a transfer QB.
Dino isn’t a moron like the previous HC.
So the fanbase has that going for us. Our last HC was an embarrassment.

Dino has done a terrible job this year but isn’t an embarrassment.

We've been hearing we're getting good O line recruits pretty much each of the last 3 years. Let's not re-write history here.

I’ve always liked Dino. Wanted him to be the hire in 16. The only issue I am having is that he does not want to change the offense. When he first started I always knew the team would score a lot of points. Now the team struggles to score points. I know the OL is an issue but it wasn’t much better in 16 and 17. Not sure if defenses have adjusted and Dino will not change or it’s the current personnel. I’m interested after Clemson if we are able to score points and have consistent drives.

I think there is something here. Dino's tempo offense with no set plays, and everything be live reads has been adjusted to. People have figured out how to slow it down and cover the play calls that seem so obvious now.

You have to call different plays, mix up the formations, use different parts of the field. I don't see that flexibility, either. Yes, we are limited by events. But we should be farther along than we are. I just don't get it.

Once the AD has to come out and say the coaches job is secure, its over. He’s a dead man walking. Given the financial state of the department and the contract, he will be here three more years, but it’s over.

I don't want to feel that way, but this is what history tells us, Stevenson. You're probably right.

Goes both ways, two dubious whistles and its 12-1. Teams are going to be down, it's just the cycle of the sport.

Look what Dino did at MD vs what Shafer did playing a team with a LB at QB due to injuries. Shafer took a program on the rise and got Bowl eligible on the last play of the regular season. He was clutch.

I had a buddy who played for URI in the late 90s when Narduzzi and Shafer were there. He spoke super highly of Scott. Act liked him as a coach more than Pat. Said he was a maniac (in the best way possible)

Shafer certainly was wrong guy at the wrong time it turned out. Not sure he was ever going to be the right guy at right time without any HC experience but he was a good D coordinator. Team played with some fury on d which I loved.

You know what was even more smoke and mirrors that 2013 season where we scrapped to 7 wins.
Our team was blown out by Northwestern, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Florida State.

You can say 2018 was smoke and mirrors go ahead.
Just realize Scott Shafer tenure was an embarrassment to Syracuse football. We hired the cheapest replacemeant we could during the biggest transition in program history.
We hired a clown HC and got clown behavior.

Shafer was the wrong guy. How is this even a debate? That '13 season also got lucky by beating a really beaten up NC State if i recall. Just a gift from the injury gods

Shafer though was a damn good D coordinator. Both things can be true. And he was, by all accounts, not a bad guy while he was on the Hill.

I got no problem with SS tenure as DC he had an actual HC who knew how to behave on the sidelines, lead the program and not embarrass the program talking to the media.

SS as HC set the program back 5 years. I like Dr. Gross personally but his handling of spending in the AD screwed up the football program when Marrone left.
Gross wasn’t caught off guard when Marrone left that is fallacy that has been debunked after the fact. Marrone was upfront he wasn’t going to stop the NFL from making him offers he knew he was out if he got an NFL job.

Gross chose to pick Shafer to save money.

Yeah agreed, I am not into the would coulda shoulda stuff like Coach Mac use to say about ifs/buts/candy/nuts. The records are the records. 10-3, only game we weren't in was ND. Give him huge credit for that and this year is on him as well regardless of circumstance. That said AD has to look at things a bit differently as well

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not

As a guy who repeatedly beats up on Marrone's 2nd season for being the weakest SoS in modern Syracuse history, I'm well aware of when a team catches a few breaks.

You play who you play. We were really close to knocking off the eventual national champs at their place that year too. 2018 team was a very good team. They are prob undefeated vs our schedule this year, including UNC.

He was very inconsistent as a DC. We either played out of our mind or had no clue. There was nothing in between. People remember the WV games and forget the games where we couldn’t stop teams running the same play over and over again.

I've kept an eye on Middle Tenn State and they are in the same boat. Sometimes they surprise and sometimes they get killed
