Adrian Cole and Luke Benson in the portal.

Use the damn TE...
At this point we have lost two. It’s a bit like closing the barn door after all the horses have left. Don’t want to lose any more TEs but do we even have any left other than Mang?

Show any flashes of greatness? He's a Redshirt Freshman (and good cover corners are a premium. We've long struggled with it.)

There are no other corners on the roster that have better length or athletic ability so you must be talking about the incoming CBs. I'm bullish on Wilson but it's a stretch to say they have better length and athletic ability. Cole is proven. Cole is very rangy and has long arms to. He's a lot like Iffy and imo ahead of Iffy at the same stage of development.
Not wading into how good Cole may or may not be but just pointing out he was a COVID redshirt freshman and has been in the program 3 seasons.

Steven Mahar - 6'5" 230 Fr.

... assuming he's not portalling out later this week.

Whoa, dude's a grad transfer?

Did he come in with loads of credits or something?
Been at SU since Jan 2019 so 6 semesters plus probable summer sessions.

agreed. Benson dropped more passes than he caught. Even Gronkowski is required to block (and is a great blocker) for cripes sake.
I remember one of the few times he was targeted, he dropped it. I think it killed a drive. Still, both are big losses.

I remember when most of the board was very, very, high on Benson and he looked good his frosh year. One of the great mysteries, to me, of our terrible offense over the last few years, is our lack of use of the TEsin the short passing attack. It is no surprised that L Morris bailed early - and I think that is mostly on the coaches.

And then we have to watch Pitt (and other) TEs chew us up.

At this point, it doesn't matter if Benson used to be good or would be good; TE at SU is a disaster. I really hope the new OC starts using the TEs in the passing attack.

Bet both end up at Kent State playing for Sean Lewis.
Aaron Hackett transferred to Kent under Lewis and caught 2 passes all season. 2. Correction, looked it up again. Hackett caught 5 passes for 21 yards.

Elmore played 3 games at Syracuse this season, and had one fewer catch than Hackett did.

DIdnt I already say I like the length of the incoming CB's? Foster is 6'2 and Peterman is 6'1. Potential is there. Losing Cole hurts our depth for sure, he was a capable back up and potential starter for next year. Solid DB but do you want me to drool over him? lol. Its like your'e mad because I dont share the same enthusiam you have for him. Staff is in the portal. Read between the lines.

Cole probably got chewed out after the Pitt game. They picked on him relentlessly with Garrett out and took advantage of him.

Not saying he didn't have potential, but he most certainly did not make the most of his opportunities when they came. He had a lot of really key drops. Speed as a receiving TE is useless if he doesnt have silky smooth mits. Given what hes done to date he shouldn't be super hard to replace.

It's kind of funny that Hackett and Benson had identical receiving stats this year.
I hate it when we loose players but if they graduate it make sense if they want to move on. It’s the ones that leave before they graduate that really bothers me.

Eligibility wise he’s a redshirt freshman. He has 3 years left to play.

Forgot about Mahar. Still not enough on roster and I don’t think we have one committed for next year.

Pitt's tight ends (both of them) were bigger, stronger, could block, run routes and catch. If our last two starting tight ends had half of those qualities they would have been thrown to. Benson had good straight line speed, end of story.

Just looked at Aaron Hackett’s stats there this year. 5 receptions all year. They did have another TE who had better numbers. He had 7 receptions

Our Tight end room led the ACC in TD’s in 2019. Think it’s a scheme thing rather than a talent thing.

Yup, dude's that graduate can basically do whatever in my book.

They're fulfilled the whole purpose of being in college! Let them be free!

Happy trails Adrian and Luke. We hardly knew ye...

Hope this means that Garrett W is definitely coming back to Syracuse next season.
Edited. ; )
