Adrian Cole and Luke Benson in the portal.

No I don’t because it’s not the end of it for any school.
I just hope this is the last corner leaving. We’re thinnnn on the line and in the backfield. Safety I suppose is ok.

Interested to see. Can’t fault the kids, especially if they have their degree.

If you watch the Chestnut INT replay you'll see Cole waiving for him to come out and run it back...then he completely misses a block against the guy that tackles Duce. Just random but a funny play.
Ha! I'm sure he wasn't feeling the love after that play.

Maybe but Hackett didn't exactly light it up there this year. Needs to go somewhere that can coach up TEs
Gotta correct you on that. Aaron has been a tremendous blocker in one of the top 10 rushing offenses in the nation. Don’t think there is a better blocking H-tight end in the MAC. Has not been used as a receiver but has accepted role on a team that Saturday can win its first MAC title since 1972. His blocking, smarts and hands give him a chance to play at next level. Still bleeds Orange. No SU tight end has caught more TDs.

I can undertand Benson, but if I was his father I would advise him that there is no harm in waiting a bit to see who the new OC was.

Eligibility wise he’s a redshirt freshman. He has 3 years left to play.
Right, that wasn’t the issue, was pointing out he’s a COVID redshirt freshman meaning he has spent 3 years in the program as opposed to a pre COVID redshirt freshman who would only have been in the program for 2 years.

lewis was playing TE himself while calling plays and riding a unicycle. He had 106 receptions and 1500 yards
It’s how he made the MAC championship:p

Pitt's tight ends (both of them) were bigger, stronger, could block, run routes and catch. If our last two starting tight ends had half of those qualities they would have been thrown to. Benson had good straight line speed, end of story.
Good to know that it is all because of our crappy TEs; I understand now.

….except by transferring they will be
I meant if their coach was let go ala benson. It’s why we get so excited to get kids when coaches leave or get fired.

Cm
Would have lost more probably
Hence the thread “Just blow it up”. What’s it going to look like next year after a 3-9 season. It isn’t going to get better.

Eventually, someone has to do some in depth analysis on all of this. Not just at SU, but everywhere.

If everyone who isn't going to start is going to take their ball and go home, and transfer portal kids are only going to go where they can find a starting job, something just isn't going to add up.

Maybe the real winners in all of this will be G5 or FCS schools.
I've said this plenty over the years once I (eventually) realized it, but 90 something players on a team stunned me. Always going to be people that never see the field. Which then makes me wonder... better to be on a D1 school and never play, or at a lower level school and play? Surely there is a transition period somewhere in there. It's interesting to me how someone decides which route to go.

Anyway.

These also are tough decisions, believe it or not. Guys come to campus and create a bunch of friendships, on and off the field. Hard giving that all up. I can't imagine transferring during my years at Cuse, but I never had a legitimate reason to consider it.

Cole was buried.

I'll be shocked if Benson lands at a P5.

Like everyone else I wish he got more targets but don't tell me he couldn't have earned a bigger role in the gameplan by outperforming our very mediocre WRs in practice.

Obviously the coaches at TCU, Michigan State and other Power 5 schools that offered Hackett after he went into the portal saw it differently. Luke will get P5 offers. He’s a talented player and a great teammate.
One other thing. HCDB is old school in the best way in that he stays loyal to his players and wants the best for them, even if they transfer. Just a good person.

Anyway.

Normally it's 85 scholarship players plus walk-ons.

This season it was 85, plus walk-ons, plus any "Super Seniors" who returned.

Every team's roster was "bloated" for 2021. Next season, everyone has to get back down to 85.

When the music stops, there will be a lot less chairs available.

I don’t care anymore. I’m starting to dislike everything about college football. The portal, 24/7 use of private jets, stupid salaries, have and have nots, etc
I’m with you
