Adrian Cole and Luke Benson in the portal.

Georgia Tech fired their OC and now has Chip Long. He was the OC at ND who is right up there with Iowa in terms of tight end U. I'm sure he sold him on that and the possibilities he would have.

Personally I felt he was severely under used but with that said idk about him being an NFL guy. Good player for us but in terms of best TE's of CFB he's not in that echelon IMO.

After hearing about how his parents acted, I don’t care if he lights it up somewhere else. Bye.

That's a good spot for Cole. I don't know their depth chart but I imagine he has a good chance to start there.

Wasn’t FIU the school that has equipment issues? Something like their jerseys are 10 years old and they’ve used Miss St old pads for years?
They use Mississippi states pads, cuse players and Miami's jock straps. Tough kids at FIU.

No mention of their intended academic areas of interest?

The TE room had to be a mess...Hacket transferred...Benson was underused...another left before ever playing a game...probably why Ferri the TE coach was let go

Huh?? It’s Ferri’s fault that Gilbert didn’t know TE’s could do more than block?

Rhino is coming back for his 14th season.
Mang & Mahar are also returning.

And I’m sure we’ll pick up another TE from the portal, now that we can offer an OC who uses the TE quite a bit, and creatively.

TE clearly wasn't a clear part of our gameplay. to that end it isn't a huge part of a lot of other teams plans. Hackett left to go to Kent State where he tallied 5 catches. I think it all comes down to two things. Scheme and recruiting. If the scheme doesn't call for th TE to be a big part of the passing game then you have to recruit that way. Target guys who want to block and be an extension of the OL. Otherwise if we recruit these guys to be Mark Andrews or George Kittle they will continue to leave if they aren't utilized as pass catchers.

This is right on. The TE use as a receiver is good but you dont need it to have a productive offense. Coaches use various schemes to get points. TE is not always used as a receiving threat. If you have a player that is play maker at the position then you should design some stuff to utilize him.

Agree with the concept of TEs not being HUGE parts of offenses. But you have to use them/include them as part of your offensive attack if for no other reason than to keep LBers and safeties honest and occupied.
Georgia has Brock Bowers...similar size and can run like Benson. They had him doing everything except selling tix. Alabama had Latu at TE...20 receptions 300 yards and 6 TDs. Pitt had Krull...37 receptions...443 yards with 6 TDs. Nothing wrong with targetting a TE or getting the ball in his hands 4 times a game.

The three went back to Fl. Hopefully it works out for them.
I agree...depends if they let local distractions...ummm distract them. I wish them all good luck and will try to find FIU on ESPN+ next season.

I don’t see a reason to put a TE in if there is almost zero percent chance we pass to them and when the once in a blue moon opportunity does come their way they drop it or get hurt. Just slap the #3 tackle in that spot for an additional blocker or don’t use a TE formation at all.

It helps to have them as threats if they are play makers but you can keep safeties and LB's occupied just by running dummy routes with them. They have to account for TE's no matter what. The QB's will throw to them if they are left uncovered.

Heavy run teams would stay in that formation if that is the case but having an eligible receiving number makes a huge difference in manipulating the defense. Even if the TE's are not thrown to a lot.
